Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Carla Simpson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Carla thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I went out for girls night with some friends and they were having an amateur comedy night competition. I was with my friends drinking my favorite apple martinis. Had NO thought of getting on stage. I am just NATURALLY making people laugh. So , one of my friends, Carla, you should get up there. I was like girl no way…and then I heard that man say $100 prize. I signed up. Went onstage. Won. And the rest is history. And THE FEELING of the audience laughing AT and WITH me…I knew RIGHT then, I was going to be a comic. I have ALWAYS been an actress. Lol! For my friends and family.

Carla, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I go by the name of Crazy Carla for Comedy. And my birth name for everything else. I chose Crazy Carla because always say , ” Carla, you are so CRAZY!” And I AM!!! In all the ways that count!! I started SERIOUSLY acting almost 7 years ago by hooking up with one my Comedy Brothers who wrote a play that he said he heard my voice in his head as the character. The play went on to be AWARD WINNING!! And I was hit with the acting bug. I was married with four kids when I started and it wasn’t easy working full time and being a Mom and wife, but I ABSOLUTELY love bring onstage and having an audience. I have a podcast now and I started out as a Poet. I love making people FEEL….all the feelings. That is what I do. I talk to people as a comic, an actress, a Podcaster, a Poet. I say what I feel and how I think others feel and it translates. It ENTERTAINS because I AM an entertainer.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Emptying my soul and people loving it. People always come up to me after performances and TALK to me. And I love it! I love hearing the stories.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I want to make my family proud. Period. When I am gone I want to be the INTERESTING ancestor with all the stories. Lol!
