Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Carla Jordan . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Carla , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s jump right into how you came up with the idea?
VICTORIAN STEAMPUNK FASHION…has always been an interest of mines since the age of 7. I received a Fashion plate for Christmas and the rest is history.
I remember driving my mother crazy with the selection of garments I dressed myself in. My mother was very girlie and bought the cutest shoes, skirts and dresses for me but, I managed to somehow pair the cute skirts with Wrestling or Combat boots. I knew early on I was unique and my interest would one day serve others because there are so many people that embrace dressing in unique garments and self expression.
I attended Bauder College in Fort Lauderdale, Florida where i majored in Fashion Design and I would create beautiful garments for performers and special clients. At the peak of my career, I was diagnosed with Cancer with an uncertainty of survival and that’s when life happened. I took a break from my dreams and focused on being a Mom and wife. Once my sons became adults I reached back to complete my dream and it took off as if I never stopped.
I design for my Brand -JON-LUC’ and I also work for the TV, Film & Movie Industry in Costumes as a Designer, Tailor, Seamstress and Costumer. I enjoy creating garments, accessories and hats- utilizing different fabrics, textiles and fasteners. I design Shows and lines based on the Victorian Steampunk era and each line is just as fascinating as the one before it. I’m looking forward to continued success and industry growth.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
As an Industry team member, I have had the opportunity to work with some of the most talented people on several incredible movies and films. I especially enjoy working on “Period” pieces because of my background as a Designer for the Victorian era. Working with the Costumes department enables me to be creative and thrive in my element.
As an Award winning Designer and founder of the Jon-Luc’ Brand. I enjoy being creative and designing themed based shows…my desire is to one day present a show in London and of course Las Vegas.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is serving others with my talents and skills that have the same or similar interests. Watching an idea or vision come to life that is not the norm for the industry or the world.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
One goal that drives me is the desire to create, orchestrate and oversee a traveling show similar to those under the Cirque du Soleil Brand. The Costumes, the performers… they all drive me to one day reaching my goal.
