We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Carla Daniela. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Carla below.
Hi Carla, thanks for joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Our mission at Tailor Love is to tailor wedding gowns to perfection, customized to fit like a glove and create beautiful Happy Brides. I am very fortunate because my tailoring work and business is very rewarding because I am in the bride’s business to make brides feel and look amazing on their special day. Our brides purchased their wedding dresses from bridal boutiques or online or they are past done from a family member. And at Tailor Love we tailor, redesign, and do the alterations necessary to ensure that a bride’s wedding dress fits perfectly, meets all of her specifications, and most importantly, makes their wedding dress unique and feeling her most beautiful self. Our mission statement at Tailor Love has helped my employees and myself to see the meaning and purpose of our craft, and the positive aspects of our daily tailoring activities, boosting morale and creating Happy Brides. At Tailor Love we specialize in a variety of tailoring techniques, and we have experience in redesigning vintage wedding dresses, bridesmaids, tailoring, and working on luxury wedding brands. I believe to succeed you need to follow your mission, passion, goals, and have consistency, creativity, and willingness to evolve and make changes as needed. You need to be persistent and firm with yourself to not get out of your mission goals and keep working for perfection, high quality standards, and a creative environment.
Carla, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am Carla Daniela the owner of Tailor Love in Hillcrest. I was born and raised in Azores, Terceira island , Portugal. I have over 20 years of experience modifying garments based on my clients’ specifications and needs. I offer a range of services including professional tailoring, sewing, and redesigning of clothes, specially wedding dresses. I listen to my client’s vision when altering existing gowns and garments and strive to make them look and feel great.
Since I was a little girl, I started trading toys for fabrics. Those fabrics along with what would be left over from my Grandma Albertina’s sewing, I would transform them into specialty gowns, ball gowns, evening gowns, and two-piece dresses. My taste for fashion, design and tailoring would grow through the years, and so would my knowledge by graduating in Fashion and Textile Design. I love keep learning by sharing ideas and working with other seamstresses and tailors in the United States and Portugal.
I had the dream of opening my own tailor shop where I could create and help my client’s visions come to life, and tailor gowns and garments that are customized and unique for each client and now In 2023 I am celebrating 13 years of my vision at Tailor Love with happy clients and happy brides looking their best!
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
I highly recommend The Alchemist book. The Alchemist has been instrumental and inspiring to me in entrepreneurial thinking and business philosophy at Tailor Love. The theme of The Alchemist is to pursue your dreams by following your heart and hope is the factor that helps you to achieve your goal. It teaches us when you want something wholeheartedly, the whole universe conspires to help you to achieve it. As a child my dream was to open my own atelier where I could create and help clients’ visions come to life and create unique and customized gowns and garments. In 2010, I decided to take my own dream and journey, and follow my passion for tailoring and open Tailor Love in San Diego.
One of my favorite quotes from The Alchemist is “There is only one way to learn…It’s through action. Everything you need to know you have learned through your journey.” – Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist.
During my 13-year business journey at Tailor Love, I had to overcome multiple obstacles in running a business, capital, marketing strategies and client base obstacles. Through which I have learned valuable business and life lessons. While it may seem impossible at times to reach your goals, the right planning can help you overcome almost anything. I do believe in the alchemy philosophy where I take my brides’ wedding gowns and tailor them to perfection and create beautiful Happy Brides.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
At Tailor Love we maintain an open line of communication with our customers and brides to ensure Happy Brides and foster brand loyalty with all customers. Here are some examples of how we stay in touch with our brides: · Meeting in person one-on-one with our brides. You just can’t replace one-on-one meetings with your brides. We discuss all the needs, vision, possibilities, specifications, solutions, and recommendations to ensure the best fitting and that her wedding dress fits her perfectly.
· We communicate by text message, phone, email, messenger, social media and at times by video call as needed to ensure the success and tailoring of the wedding dress to perfection.
· Responding in a timely manner is key. We are very responsive to our customers and brides, and we respond to address their questions and needs to give them peace of mind and show that we value them. And we are there to listen and consult with our brides.
· Engaging in social media with our followers, customers, and brides. Social media provides us with the means for staying in touch with our customers and followers. We post at least 3 times a week on Tailor Love social media channels. We dedicate time to engaging with customers, posting, sharing, and commenting.
We truly enjoy keeping in touch with our customers and brides by keeping an open line of communication from start to completion and continuously fostering brand loyalty and high standards of customer service. As a business owner, I know our customers and brides are the reason for the growth of Tailor Love. That’s why it’s important to consider your customers in everything you do. Your customers’ needs should be at the forefront of your business. This will not only drive high customer service, but also build brand loyalty in the long term.
Here’s why cultivating customer loyalty is important and tips on building it. Know your customers because each one is unique, engage your customers on social media, encourage customer feedback, deliver consistent quality work and customer service, play to your strengths and values, and build a sense of belonging are all key elements of your brand strategy that can also lead to brand loyalty. Most of our business is by word of mouth because our customers and brides can rely on month after month, year after year with high quality tailoring and consistency. Customers brand loyalty has helped us grow in the best of times, but it has also helped us survive tough economic times or challenging financial times.
