We were lucky to catch up with Carl Wright recently and have shared our conversation below.
Carl, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
The first ever children’s book that I wrote and published is entitled, Collin’s Sweet Adventure. This book is my most cherished literary accomplishment, which is a fictional tale about my son, Collin and the adventurous journeys with his friends. My mindset as a father has always been about building and leaving a legacy for him. In my efforts to teach him how to identify and cultivate his talents and interests, C & C Wright Investments was born. The “C & C” stands for, Carl and Collin! It’s about motivation through ownership, creativity and hard work. That’s what I want my son to learn and that’s what drives me daily. With the positive feedback that I received from my first book, I got encouraged to create other literary items for schools, such as custom children’s workbooks, children’s notebooks and journals. These books are published under our brand, Carl Is Always Wrighting “Your Literary Source”. We support mental health awareness by offering custom literary items for people of all ages. These include our increasingly popular 90-day gratitude journals, calendars, notebooks and journals for healthy living. If you’re looking for a customized journal to match your vibe or want a unique cover design and interior to brand your business, look no further than C & C Wright Investments!
Carl, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m the founder and CEO of C & C Wright Investments, LLC. I am a self-published Author, born in Omaha, Nebraska and raised in Decatur, Georgia. I am rooted in writing, which began around the early age of seven. Drawing was my original passion, with my first featured drawing being showcased in the Sesame Street Magazine in 1986. I was the only representative selected from the State of Georgia, alongside other entry winners from around the country. Being a jack of many trades, due to my many talents and interests (sports, language arts and music), I ultimately honed in on writing. Still today, I am a self-proclaimed child at heart! This fact, along with the unconditional love I have for my son, led me to write Collin’s Sweet Adventure. This adventurous children’s book is aimed at getting children to exercise their curiosity, maintain a sense of adventure, use problem-solving techniques, and to see the value of teamwork at an early age. I want this book to assist parents and care providers with encouraging these traits in an amusing way. Collin’s Sweet Adventure will absolutely do that! It is relatable and empowering. I think your little ones and you will appreciate this book and really enjoy the journey. You will no doubt feel like you have actively contributed to your child’s creative and decision-making development after reading this book. Besides literary items for people of all ages, we also provide proofreading and editing services, as well as vending services. We bring vending to businesses and facilities in the Metro-Atlanta area. We are truly, “Invested In Everything We Do”.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new clients has been daycare centers, schools and teachers who want something unique for their students. Back-to-School and Read Across America Day for example, are a really big deal. We’ve also been doing really well around this time of the year with Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas approaching. Our holiday-themed books are always a hit!
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
The first thing that comes to mind is when my business partners, Dennard “D-Reddi” Wright, Nick ” Nick P” Pelt and I decided to dissolve our music production company. It was called, Hevy Hed Productions, Inc. That was my baby! We grinded hard and had what seemed like tracks for days in our discography. One of the most memorable recording sessions that I’ve been a part of to date was with, Spragga Benz. S/o to Webba of Webba Promotions for making that happen! We even launched a small clothing brand (Hevy Hed) to help bring more attention to the music side. We were super excited, because the first jackets we made were for my former college teammate, Jeff Scott (Scott-The-Jeff) and his Bro. Vince Carter. We also had the opportunity to outfit a few aspiring recording artists and notables in the music and entertainment industry. It was a lot of fun, but super saturated. Especially being in Atlanta at that time and just before the age of YouTube, etc. After that was over, I took a few years to regroup and figure out what else I enjoyed doing, that was enjoyable, sustainable and profitable. So, the pivot landed me in here as Founder and CEO of C & C Wright Investments.
