Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Carl White III. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Carl thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
I decided to start Movespot based on an in person experience. One day I was working out in Planet Fitness & recognized that everyone in the gym was using their phones instead of exercising, which instantly gave me a spark for an interesting idea. Later on that day when I got back home I immediately started on a powerpoint brainstorming different ideas and features. After doing the proper research and figuring out how development worked I started searching for my first investor and that’s how things began.
At first I thought things were as simple as telling my developers what I want and thought that they could make the app from scratch. Although I quickly found out thats not how things work. I firstly began researching market trends to see exactly how I wanted to create the app. I then had to create a wireframe, which is similar to a blueprint for. house. It instructs developers on the discreet functions of the application. After this process there was a period of testing, searching for bugs within the app to make sure everything was working fluently. Next we had to test the app among our close friends to make sure everything was working well on other devices as well. The final phases were going through Beta testing and then eventually releasing the product onto the App Store.

Carl, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Movespot is a mobile app that combines social media, social networking, and making “moves” all into one platform. Moves can be described as activities that can be scheduled within the spur of the moment.
Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO did an interview with CNN and stated that it is unhealthy for people to sit on their phones all day while scrolling idly. Our customers need this app to receive an all around authentic social experience, while also furthering their mental health. Movespot gives our users the option to meet face to face by scheduling moves or use the platform socially. Which is a huge advantage since most social apps only focus on keeping their users bootstrapped to their platform. The world is constantly changing everyday and social media is a reason for that.
The current culture of social media posting and scrolling all day is the norm. We’ve gotten away from the need for face to face social interaction. As humans we are naturally built to interact, this is our livelihood and makes us who we are. Our ability to interact and communicate with one another and Movespot’s focus is to increase that face to face interaction while still keeping social features that we as a people have grown so accustomed to. With features like the TimeMap, a time distance visualizer we encourage our users to connect with other Movers in their area and create those relationships. It’s no reason somebody should have thousands of followers and nothing to do, or nobody to hang out with on a Friday evening. Movespot has successfully created an all-around authentic social environment.
Ceo / Founder Carl White III is a former All-county football player that was overlooked during the recruiting process. Having 15 touchdowns his senior year at Engineering and Technology Magnet School Arabia Mountain, after graduating he received the first investment for Movespot while playing junior college football in Reedley, California. After receiving the initial investment for Movespot he decided to come back to Atlanta to pursue Movespot full time. Applying the same consistency, discipline, and work ethic needed in sports to the tech industry is what has gotten Movespot to where it is today.
I’ve always had interest in tech industry growing up in Generation Z which is the digital generation. This idea was made from the focus of mental health.
Movespot is currently rated 5 Stars on the App Store.
How did you build your audience on social media?
My clothing brand Fly Familia is the gem that gave me my initial exposure on social media. Major artists and athletes began wearing my brand and would post pictures tagging me which helped me get more supporters towards my movement. I never paid any influencers to wear my brand everyone who supports has done it just from genuinely showing love. Advice to people starting out is to always keep positive energy towards what you are doing and you will get great results, energy is everything.
Also being a star football player in high school helped me build a following. Being able to go to school with friends who have watched the transition from sports to business has helped me gain great support.

How do you keep your team’s morale high?
To manage a team you must be a person that others can look up to while also being able to set an example for the team to follow. If your working hard setting the right example then the team will follow suit as well, but the same goes for slacking. If you aren’t handling business the correct way most likely the team won’t either because you are the leader. The team follows the leader meaning that the leaders energy will rub off on the team as well. I have never witnessed a startup succeed that didn’t have an passionate leader.
Spending time with your team outside the work environment also builds great trust. Your only as good as your supporting team and quality time builds closer connections within a team.
