We were lucky to catch up with Carissa Latham recently and have shared our conversation below.
Carissa, appreciate you joining us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
In order to be successful in anything you do, it requires consistency, dedication and the belief that it can be done! At one point, everyone was “beginner” in something that they have started or pursued. It’s impossible to go into something knowing everything. A lot of things can only be learned through experience! That’s why it’s so important to believe in yourself even when no one else does. Everyone will not always see your vision the same way you see it but that’s ok because God didn’t give them the vision; he gave it to you for a reason. So what’s helped me the most with becoming successful in this industry is hard work, dedication, sacrifices and a drive to become an expert in this field!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’ve always had a creative eye when it came to photos, art, drawing etc. My mom and one of my close friends had cameras before I decided to invest in one for myself. I would mess around with them and try to learn/figure out how to work them often. A close friend of mine started a business and I wanted to provide value by making promotional content/videos! It was at that time that I realized that I need to learn the correct and proper way to edit because YouTube wasn’t helping me understand the parts of Premier Pro that I needed to know at the time. During that time I came across an advertisement of a group in Atlanta, GA with instructions and participants that looked like me and were learning the same skills that I needed help with which was photography and video at the time. I immediately knew that this was what I needed to be apart of. Shortly after I investing in myself and the course and it was up from there! Joining this group really allowed me get to know myself on a deeper level, network, grow as an individual and meet other dope individuals working towards the same goal as me. I was able to learn the basics of photography and videography on the technical side and also the business side, which is where a lot of people in the industry struggle (business side of things). Being apart of the Shooters Agency allowed me to travel, work different business conferences, and meet some pretty dope people along the way, including a few celebrities such as Rick Ross, Meek Mills and a few others. Getting this experience gave me the drive and confidence I needed to start my own business, More Life Media Productions. We specialize in creating value content for brands, biz owners and entrepreneurs to allow them to engage with their ideal audience and grow their brands on social media. We also have a lot of experience with shooting public speakers and course instructors during their conferences or in person classes; capturing talking head clips a lot with b-roll clips which allows to produce amazing short form content. This is just beginning and we have been in business officially for going on 3 years, can’t wait to see what new opportunities and plans God has in store for us.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
I feel like one of the most effective ways for going our clientele has been from our previously satisfied customers! Word of mouth is so important when it comes to any business and can really make or break you. Also people seeing us out in the field working along with showcasing different projects on social media that speaks to our ideal audience!

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Reading and watching informative YouTube videos has became one of my favorite past times since becoming an entrepreneur . We really have to change the way we think in a lot of cases to become successful because the mindset required for this type of work is so different from what we have been taught all our lives. Two books that have really helped me along this journey so for are Rich Dad, Poor Dad and The Four Agreements. They really opened my mind up to look at things from different perspective and these views have also helped me so much!
