We were lucky to catch up with Carisha Johnson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Carisha thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard.
As the CEO of Live with Carisha I oversee a number of job roles. Most importantly and my biggest milestone to date has been breaking into the Talk Show Host genre. My niche in the media world has been creating timeless content and breakthrough interviews with independent artists, business owners, influencers. Normally in this world the bigger the guest the bigger the request to get them, which is fine but at LIVE WITH CARISHA we pride our show on sitting with the up-and-coming artists, business owners, fashion icons of the future.
We are the home of the Hot Seat. We are home of The Diva. Guests go into another realm going live with me. During the show we start off getting the who’s who out into the air, before taking things up a level and turning on the fun with the Hot Seat. The rules are simple! You can’t plead the 5th during the Hot Seat segment, and anything goes.
Besides being the host of 1 of the most iconic media platforms in the south I’m also a full-time media personality, blogger, red carpet host and maven.
As a Journalist I don’t follow trends. My hair is red, attitude is fabulous and I’m highly passionate about my work.
Carisha, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I launched Live with Carisha during the Pandemic honestly and kept pushing to break down new barriers since then. I have ALWAYS been in the media industry though! I started out writing for the school newspaper, then the college newspaper, and have always had my face in front of someone’s camera.
I have had my hands in all sorts of media adventures. Producing fashion shows for celebrity Photographers, interning for top DJ’s, reality TV tapings, red carpet hosting and more. I specialize in hosting / blogging / and journalism. I have also interned for the Atlanta Voice Newspaper, shadowed Emmy winning Journalist Jovita Moore, and traveled around the states covering amazing events.
I’m most proud of pushing myself out of my comfort zone to build something that I really enjoy doing. Alot of people, including mainstream celebrities have joined the ‘podcast’ lane as a part of a new trend but this has been life for a very long time and the media world is a lane i dominate and will soon be known throughout in.
I also work with a number of upcoming businesses, and artist with PR and branding. I will take your vision, blow it up and put it in front of the world with a red ribbon around it.
Writing is a passion of mines and I enjoy doing blog placements, biographies, press releases for my clients as well.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
My mother passed away from cancer about a year ago when my career started to take off. At the time I had a huge show to do the night I found out she had gone to heaven. I must have still been in shock because the next day I did the show, and it really didn’t hit me she had passed until a 2nd show went by when I was in Los Angeles for a event. I remember just balling in my hotel room before the show. Somehow, I made it through that summer and even though today I still am in a lot of pain from missing my mom i know the strength I had to get through those beginning months was something unordinary.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
YES! How to build credit, apply for loans, grants, and financial assistance with your business. Take advantage of all of that! Trust me you will need it.
