We recently connected with Carina Walker and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Carina thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you tell us a story about a time you failed?
My 1-Star Review
When I was first starting out professionally, I made a generic contract for potential clients and I sent it for review with a lawyer in the business. Years later to my dismay, one particular father of a bride completely rewrote my contract! Furthermore, his presumptuousness led him to change not only my pricing but also my entire structure as a business. He stated that he was in business for longer than me and that he can teach me a thing or two. I was beyond frustrated and in shock! So I immediately resolved to terminate our negotiations. I was thinking that if this client started out this way, how was it going to end? Trust is basic to do any kind of business. HE WAS NOT MY CLIENT! However, he went on to write a poor review belittling my business structure and left a 1-star review. Ouch! The review could not be removed despite my best efforts so my only 1-star review still out there but bury it in positive reviews by people who truly valued, not only my art, but also my business insight.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hi, I’m Carina from Argentina and I’m a certified professional photographer who specializes in wedding photography for the past 8 years. I’ve lived in the United States for over 20 years now and have organically grown my business from the ground up. My passion is the pursuit of perfection with a balance of artistic creativity. My goal is to bring out the best in my new family members as they unravel the essence of their individual personality. It is always fun to experience the joy they feel when they see themselves for the first time and love what they are seeing! The art of photography itself is the difference between myself and other creative minds. The tools are simply extensions of the creator. Mastering the craft of photography is a never ending journey and our best is always evolving like the seasons.
I’m proud of the Carylux family members who’ve stepped out of their comfort zones and trusted me to deliver astonishing images that reveal their hidden beauty. Our bond is that I want people to feel at ease with me as they would a family friend. So, most of my history was built on establishing long lasting relationships that cover a wide range of adventures; from proposals to engagements to weddings to newborns & family portraits.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
There was an outdoor wedding scheduled on a farm. The bride diligently checked the weather over and over for the best chance to have her rustic and elegant dream wedding at this country farm. However, on the very day of the wedding it poured rain! Everything had to be condensed down to a tent covering. People were getting stuck in the mud and being towed by trackers and the dance floor was covered with tables. The bride thought that her wedding was “a disaster!” Later, upon delivering the images, I immediately got a phone call from the bride. She was crying! My heart sank. What did her tears mean? I did my best under the circumstances and now she is calling me crying! Nervously, I asked was everything okay? I sighed a breath of relief as she candidly described how her tears of distress turned into tears of joy at the revelation of her wedding images. “You saved my wedding”, she exclaimed, “I absolutely love my pictures!”
My objective to deliver the fairy tail all brides deserve remained my focus and I sought out the diamonds in the rough. Unconventional locations and the use of umbrellas aided in recovering from the rain soak venue’s disappointment. I took pictures of the bridal party in the barn sitting on hay as well as taking pictures in between the raindrops – jumping in and out of the protection of umbrellas.
So I try to keep focus on the objective while adjusting my approach to get the best results.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Google reviews. People follow people. For example, if I celebrate the fact that my mechanic saved me a small fortune on car repairs, then others would most likely want to know who it was and try them for their car repairs. However, if the mechanic simply said he can save people money on car repairs, then few would venture to try his business. So our positive experiences have led others to want to share in our brand.
