We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Caresha James a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Caresha, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
The first time I officially knew was honestly prior to the Pandemic leading into the Pandemic. During those times I was able to think about a lot, how a regular 9 to 5 dead end job could be taken away from you just like that and not guaranteed long-term. Being a creative the opportunity and money being made is limitless.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’ve always been into makeup, beauty, and the lifestyle, so starting my own makeup line pretty much came easy to me. Prior before I was a professional makeup artist, I’ve done actresses from Carlacia Grant, worked on set, to music videos, bridal, you name it. As a former Makeup Artist I wanted to be bigger than that in a sense of, a business woman the CEO of my own makeup brand, selling cosmetics from foundation, lipsticks, glosses, lashes, and more. My business MYNK BEAUTY was founded in 2020 doing just that. MYNK BEAUTY caters to all different shades and personalities, all products are great quality and luxurious but also affordable products. I’m excited about the future of MYNK BEAUTY as in being in stores like ULTA, SEPHORA, and overall a well rounded popular makeup brand company.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Not necessarily resources, but the small things like not spending so much into funding the small things but more into marketing my business, running paid ads, pop up shops, social media. I’m still learning the marketing aspect of things because I feel like that’s key in running a successful business, especially a new successful business.

In your view, what can society do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
I feel society could take creatives and artists more serious, it’s not just a hustle, it’s a full time job. We are our own employees and CEO’s to our own business and businesses, and to me that’s an harder job than just working for a company.
