We recently connected with Cardsy B and have shared our conversation below.
Cardsy, appreciate you joining us today. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
Before I became Cardsy B, celebrity tarot reader and author, I built my career in the fashion industry designing for brands like NIKE, DKNY, and served as the Global VP of Design and Creative Director of Playboy and also had my own lingerie line
My career shifted drastically as a result of a massive “dark night of the soul” that hit with an astrological transit known as Saturn’s Return, which occurs every 27-31 years when the planet Saturn returns to the same place it was when we were born. At this point I lost everything that made me “me”. At that point I lost my best friend to HIV related complications, lost my big executive career, my marriage ended, and after a failed attempt at running my own line I also lost all of my money. This brought to the surface struggles with addiction and depression that I had managed to mask when everything in my career and on the surface seemed to be going so well.
As a result I went inward to heal, going back to my childhood love of Tarot and the mystical world which led me to start doing readings for others, eventually create my own Tarot deck and podcast, and last year my first book, The Saturn Diaries was published.
Cardsy, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My full name is Rebecca Szymczak—I’m also known as Cardsy B. I’m a writer, intuitive tarot reader, and healing catalyst. My work has been featured in MTV, Nylon, Shape, Bustle, and The Zoe Report. I transitioned out of my fashion career to dive deeper into my intuitive gifts after experiencing a dark night of the soul.
I now use tarot to guide clients, including celebrities, C-suite executives, artists, and entrepreneurs, to their own inner knowing and healing abilities.
In addition to creating my signature tarot deck, Badass Bitches Tarot, I’m is also the host of the Hex and the City podcast and the author of The Saturn Diaries: A Modern Day Grimoire.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I show up authentically and as my full self in ever aspect of my life and business. Even though my friend coined the nickname, Cardsy B, which most people now call me, I show up the same on screen and in sessions as I do in my daily life. I believe this helps de-mystify and democratize Tarot and intuitive work. I’m known for being accurate but also approachable and fun which helps people to tap into their own intuition more deeply as a result.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I think many of us are programmed with a certain path to success that our past selves or our families wanted for us, and even when find the thing that lights us up, like Tarot and intuitive healing work does for me, it can be hard to remove the stories we’ve told ourselves about how success must be obtained.
I think the big shift for me was seeing that traditional full time employment did not guarantee lifetime security any more than entrepreneurship does, and once I was in a clear and confident place I definitely decided I would rather bet on my drive, commitment and success than another company’s.
