We were lucky to catch up with Cara D’Adamo recently and have shared our conversation below.
Cara, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
I love being an artist, it is the greatest gift. Having the opportunity to create gives such a sense of freedom. When I first graduated from school, I took many different types of gigs. I wanted to continue to work on my craft and be able to provide for myself and my family. Then after working in both the music and entertainment industry for many years, it made me want to start my own production company. I started my own business as a way to help, teach and mentor younger actors getting started in the entertainment Industry.
Cara, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a New York native stage, television and film actress. Since an early age, I always had a passion for acting, singing, dancing and modeling. I started my early years performing in musical theater productions and comedy shows. I studied at NYU and continue to pursue the arts full time. It has been an interesting fifteen year journey for me, I have experienced many ups and downs in this business, but have definitely learned and grown so much as an artist. I have developed such sense of authenticity and vulnerability with each project I take on. I also started my own company to mentor younger actors getting started in the entertainment business .
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
As an artist, you always want to stay true to yourself. I never want to stop learning and growing. I am passionate about finding a sense of truth within a character, a story and connecting it to humanity.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
One of the most rewarding aspects of being an artist is being able to just be. As an actor you can be anything, there are no limitations.
