Hi Captain Dwayne, thanks for joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?

Totally Texas Outdoors LLC is a premier hunting and fishing outfitter dedicated to fostering a love for the outdoors within families. Our mission is to ensure that everyone, from the youngest to the oldest member, can participate and enjoy the beauty of nature through hunting and fishing experiences.

At Totally Texas Outdoors LLC, we are committed to educating the next generation about the wonders of the great outdoors and the incredible hunting and fishing opportunities available in some of the finest locations throughout the Lone Star State. We prioritize providing top-notch experiences for those who appreciate the thrill of hunting and fishing, and who share our passion for the natural world. Our focus is on quality and creating memorable moments for individuals who value the outdoor lifestyle.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

Since I was old enough to handle a fishing rod or shoot a gun, my father and grandfather instilled in me a love for the outdoors and valuable life lessons. Their guidance has stayed with me into adulthood. I obtained my captain’s license in 1999 and have been leading fishing charters and hunting trips ever since. My parents, grandparents, and brothers have all played a significant role in nurturing my passion for the outdoors. Even now, after 50 years, I continue to hunt and fish with my brothers, carrying on the traditions from our early childhood days.

I have always enjoyed discussing the wonders of the great outdoors and our magnificent creator who gave us life and all we enjoy. Engaging in conversations during our hunting and fishing trips is particularly meaningful to me, as I get to learn about the unique stories and experiences of each individual. It fascinates me how people from different walks of life can come together through their shared love for the outdoors. Our guides are exceptional individuals, not only skilled in their craft but also in building lasting relationships and friendships that extend far beyond our time in the field or on the water.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.

Before launching Totally Texas Outdoors LLC, I had ventured into the professional hunting and fishing outfitting business twice before, only to face failure each time. However, I don’t see these setbacks as failures; rather, I view them as opportunities to learn and improve for the future. Through these experiences, I realized that not everyone shares the same dreams or passions, especially when it’s not their own. I also learned the importance of being open and honest in business, as well as the challenges of mixing business with friendships. It’s crucial to address issues head-on and work through them together to prevent them from escalating. In my journey, I have come to understand that there is no such thing as failure, only chances for growth and greater success. Pursuing your dreams may be tough, but the fulfillment it brings is truly priceless.

A crucial piece of advice for anyone venturing into business, whether solo or with partners, is to surround yourself with individuals who not only are good people but also have your best interests at heart. The realization of Totally Texas Outdoors LLC would not have been possible without the unwavering support and dedication of my fiancée, Denise Branton. She not only believed in my dream but also worked tirelessly alongside me to help us achieve our goals. We are continuously learning and evolving, and her contribution has been invaluable. I am also grateful to my parents for their belief in me, their constructive feedback, and their constant challenge to strive for excellence in both business and life. Working in business presents the opportunity to collaborate with amazing individuals, and when you can share that journey with lifelong friends and like-minded individuals who share the same passion and dedication to the project as you do, it creates some of the most rewarding moments of your life.

How did you build your audience on social media?

We expanded our reach through social media and radio, and we owe a debt of gratitude to several individuals who played a significant role in our journey. Junior Gordon, a talented Texas country music artist and close friend, has been a key supporter. Additionally, we would like to thank the entire team at Made In Texas Radio, especially the producer and host Keegan Lucas, for their invaluable contributions. For three years, Keegan led us on a radio and podcast adventure that helped establish a lasting footprint for Totally Texas Outdoors LLC. The show not only focused on hunting and fishing but also educated listeners on conservation practices and safety in the field and on the water. This approach resonated with our audience and created a loyal following that endures to this day. We are now considering the next steps to build upon this success, and we look forward to providing updates in future interviews.
