We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Caprisha Curry a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Caprisha thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you wish you had started sooner?
If I knew better, I definitely would have started sooner. I have been on a lifelong journey to improve my health. I struggled with my weight most of my life, but I always ate healthy and was always very active. Once I learned how to balance the food and fitness along with the mental health, everything changed!
Around 2015 was when I finally saw amazing results within my body. At that time people would often ask me to help them and I declined. I declined because I truly didn’t think I could help them. I thought I could only help myself. I felt that I lacked the knowledge and the ability to help other people.
During that time I was working for Michigan State University Extension as a health, nutrition and physical activity instructor. I loved the work that I did in that role. That is when I began to have a healthy relationship with food as years prior, I learned that I had an unhealthy relationship with food and often would under eat. Working in that field gave me the knowledge that I needed to understand how food works, and it gave me the freedom to explore different food options. I also began to fall in love with fitness.
Moving forward, I fell in love with watching my body, transform and sculpt into what I always dreamed of seeing and therefore it unlocked a new level of confidence in myself. In 2019 I thought maybe I COULD help other people and decided to go ahead and get certified.
In 2020, after earning my certification in personal training, Get Fit with Pri, LLC was born. Since then, I have accumulated 3 additional certifications. I started out training people in person, transitioned to training people virtually and online and ultimately, added a dancing component.
Dance has always been one of the loves of my life however, it was something that I would do alone or with just close friends and family. With the understanding that a lot of people do not want to undergo boring fitness regimens, I decided to incorporate my love for dancing into my business.
I do wish that I had started everything sooner when people were asking me to help them. I wish that I did not let fear of failure dictate my success because we miss out on every single opportunity that we don’t take. I honestly believe that my name could possibly be a household name by now had I started sooner, but I will never know because we cannot change the past. I can only focus on the present and hope for the best for the future.

Caprisha, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
With my fitness program, I am a confidence coach and I help women get rid of mental and physical weight using my M3 method. My M3 method focuses on mental health, movement and meals. I have helped many women lose weight for a specific milestone such as a birthday or a wedding. I have also helped women get rid of unwanted weight after having a child or undergoing a depression, etc…
Everyone has a different why. My goal is to help them not forget their why and to help them become independent so that they can always have the tools to return back to their true selves whenever they feel lost.
My coaching practice may be different from most because it’s not just about doing a certain amount of sit-ups. Together we take a deep into your life and we get to the root issue so that we are not creating a temporary fix. After all, everyone deserves to live a happy life and it always starts with the mental health.
Once the mental health is solid. The physical health is a no-brainer.
I am also a confidence coach to the participants of my dance classes. The main goal is to help people feel comfortable, confident and sexy in their own skin all while getting a good workout and dance session while building community.
Most participants in my dance class describe my class as sexy cardio. They also tell newbies that the class has a very strong mental component. I like to ensure that when leaving my class, participants feel more confident, and not only their dance moves, but with their bodies and their lives.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of my business is watching my dreams come to life and unfold! Some of what I’m doing now are things that I enjoyed as a child. I dreamt for years of leading groups of people through movement. It’s very fulfilling when I help people learn a new way to move their body that they didn’t think was possible. It’s brings joy to my heart when people pull me aside or write me and tell me how much they enjoy what I do and how it has changed their lives!

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to stop the negative self talk and self sabotage! I would let fear and anxiety stop me from trying. I almost didn’t start my fitness business or my dance class because of my body image. Anxiety led me to believe that no one would take me serious as a plus-sized fitness coach and dancer who is still on her health and fitness journey, when in fact, it’s the exact opposite!
I learned that people respect me for the work that I do and they appreciate that I’m not afraid of being my authentic self! I’m learning that people sometimes need to see themselves in the person that’s helping them. I learned that it doesn’t always matter what I look like. What matters is how I utilize and deliver the information I have and how I treat people.
