We recently connected with Caprice Clarke and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Caprice thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I knew from a very early age that I wanted to be a radio personality. I have always loved music and as a child I was obsessed with the voices coming from the radio. I remember as a child I would call up to the radio station just so I could talk to the dj. Their voices were so animated and I used to do my best impression of them around the house. Growing up, I would always get in trouble for talking so much in class(lol). My mom would tell me that I needed to find a job where I talked for a living, and that is where the spark to become an on-air personality came from.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Once I graduated from high school, I enrolled at Savannah State University majoring in mass media arts with a concentration in radio/television. I only stayed there for one year before transferring to Clark Atlanta University. Unfortunately I had to leave Clark during my junior year and I eventually got a full scholarship to Atlanta Broadcast Institute. I graduated in August 2007, and immediately got an internship at the largest radio station in Atlanta at the time. I stayed diligent in my dreams interning one job after the other until I landed the perfect opportunity at 101TKO Radio. This is a new online radio station, that gives the talent creative control over their shows and brand. This is the station that is going to take me and my brand to the next level.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative for me is my listeners. Knowing that I have an audience that listens and is active in my show is the best feeling ever.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The goal that has driven me, and keeps driving me is ME. I owe it to myself to never give up on my dreams because the only person I would fail is myself and failure is NOT an option.
