We recently connected with Candy West and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Candy, thanks for joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
One of the biggest risks I’ve taken was the decision to follow God and answer the call as pastor. At the point that I was asked to consider becoming the lead pastor of the church where I am, it took much prayer and consideration. It was partly because I was trying to figure out if it was time to move on to something new. I wasn’t sure about what was next. However, it was God’s plan and design that what was next would usher me into one of the biggest decisions of my life.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I got my professional start in the music industry as a background singer for Kirk Franklin with God’s Property. From there I went on to tour, record, and travel with Kirk Franklin and other iconic artists like Mary Mary, Patti LaBelle, Fred Hammond, Yolanda Adams, Myron Butler, and more.
The journey from there led me into the world of leading worship for amazing ministries like The Potters House of Dallas (Bishop T.D. Jakes), Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship (Dr. Tony Evans), and more. Music and Ministry have both been a major part of my life and they have beautifully intertwined through the years.
The most wonderful thing about being a creative leader is the opportunity to pursue my passions like mentorship and entrepreneurship while embracing my calling.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
One of the most rewarding aspects of what I do is seeing people be inspired and encouraged to keep going. Whether it’s through a song, my book, or a message, it’s a blessing to know that something I’ve shared has impacted someone else.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
One of the things that drive my creative journey is knowing there are people that are looking for someone that will help push them to purpose. And although I may not be able to reach or mentor everyone, I can impact someone.
