We recently connected with Candida Meyers and have shared our conversation below.
Candida, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
The name of my Business is Kaotic Kreations 13. I named it such because of my chaotic nature when crafting making my art. My mind is always racing with ideas on what to make next and even I never know what my next product will be till I make it. Through that chaos I can creat such diverse and beautiful creations. Thus I am Kaotic Kreations 13.
Candida, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Of course! I started my business in 2013, I had a passion for making beautiful jewelry that I wanted to share with everyone. My love for crystals and crafting came together to make one of kind pieces. However, my jewelry and products in general did go through several changes, and even to this day they are not in their final forms. I love each piece though, and all the smiles my work has brought, I would never change that. As of now I make not only jewelry, but also Dreamcatchers, resin Art (my newest obsession lol), candles, tribal art, and so much more. When people find me at festivals and now various conventions, they will be greeted with whimsical and colorful products that really excite the imagination. I must say seeing the wonder and joy in my customer’s faces is what I’m most proud of. I wont lie money is important and of course I can’t do what I do with out it, but its not my motivation by any means. I just want to add a little more color and smiles in a world that doesn’t seem to have enough of either.
We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
Yes it sure did! In fact I started as what my friend lovingly called a booth babe. I helped her with her festivals and set ups. Setting up her canopy, displaying her products, and helping make sales. I didn’t even have my own business yet but slowly she let me put some of my stuff out and try and get a feel for how my stuff would do. She was the most amazing mentor and helped me learn a lot while I worked with her. From there I was not only able to gain the skills to run a booth on my own but also made lots of contacts for more festivals to set up at. Once I had a good foot in the door I ran, I started my own business, and started setting up at various markets. Today I’m doing so much more than I ever thought I would. I set up at festivals like the Katy Rice festival and The San Marcos Mermaid Promenade, and even Anime and Comic conventions like Giganticon, Anime Austin, and soon the Dallas Fan Festival! For me these are huge events I normally wouldn’t be able to do, and if it weren’t for my business partner I probably would still struggle. The biggest and most helpful thing one could do in this industry is make friends and contacts! I have some great friends who have helped me find various markets and festivals to set up for and I wouldn’t have gotten this far with out them.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I gotta say life really does like to make thing interesting, both in general and as a business owner. My biggest hurtle to get over has been trying to balance being a first time mom and a business owner. But, I haven’t let that slow me down to much. I love what I do just as much as I love my son. But this is a big thing for me because I wasn’t suppose to be able to have children, so I was most certainly not prepared. I do everything I can to keep my business going and make sure my little is healthy and happy. He is the sweetest little one, and honestly helps me keep doing what I do just as much as the joy my art brings to people. There are days where I am to tired or sore to craft but I do what I can with what I got and that I think makes me so much stronger. Every little thing is something and will get you that much closer to where you want to be.
