Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Angie Roberts. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Angie, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Hi, thank you. Grateful to be here. My name is Angie and I am the owner of Candid Sol, and a moment-focused wedding photographer proudly serving all lovers, genders, races, disabilities, sexual orientations, and skin colors in Tucson, Phoenix, and all of Southern Arizona. This is what Candid Sol stands proudly for – to provide photographs, of beautiful moments between people of all walks of life, to those who want to relive their wedding day each time they look at their photos.
I have spent most of my life feeling misunderstood and after much reflection, what I learned from those years is that overlooked people and overlooked moments are what I find the most interesting. The mission for Candid Sol is to make everyone feel comfortable enough to be themselves. I will continue to grow and learn to remain an open-minded and caring person.
Angie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I encourage people to be themselves and be confident to embrace who they really are. When I speak to past clients and past guests of weddings I photographed, I am most proud to hear that I made people feel comfortable enough to just forget I was there and be themselves. To be able to create such a comfortable atmosphere is so beautiful because this allows me to capture people as they truly are. I remember the first time someone said to me that I captured their niece perfectly, that they could see her personality in the photo. I had another couple reach out to me to say they could stop worrying about where their wedding was going to be because they knew I would focus on the moments (which is what truly mattered to them). Those words truly mean the most, because I work hard to capture the relationships and emotions of the people at the weddings I attend.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
For most of my years photographing weddings, I did not want to have my own business because I did not want to run my business like others and didn’t want to deal with the problems they had. Truth is, I did not have to, and I wish I learned that much earlier. Learn what works for others but run your business in the way that works best for you.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Being myself and being different is how I have built my reputation in the wedding photography market here in Tucson, Arizona. Just when I think that no one notices my business, someone will remind me that they love my photos because they do not look like everyone else’s. Put yourself out there and make art and create services that you create with love and passion. People will notice.
