SubscribeAlright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Candice Zinner. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Candice, appreciate you joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I found Halo Therapy while searching for alternatives with allergy relief. My husband and I started visiting salt rooms, caves, and booths whenever we were out of town. It was our moment of relaxation and detoxification. Salt therapy was still very new and unheard of, so we started researching and found that it is a practice that has been used in Europe for hundreds of years.
We thought how cool it would be for someone to come relax, unwind, and get benefits helping their respiratory system while laying in a man made salt cave.
We started by researching anything salt. Wrote up a business plan, searched all around Northeast Ohio for the perfect location and landlord that would allow over 23,000 lbs. of salt in their building. We then researched other natural ways to relax and detox the body and decided on an Infrared Sauna and Ionic Foot Detox.
Candice, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My husband and I have always wanted to open our own business and when we discovered a man made salt cave and the benefits we thought, this is it, a business of our own that is focused on helping others.
It was still very new and and only about 200 places in the United States had some form of salt therapy business. We researched and found that their were other natural services you can do as well, in addition to Salt Therapy.
We are the first & still maybe the only salt cave that has a Graduation Tower in Ohio. The Graduation Tower concept comes from the Wieliczka Salt Mine in Poland. We use a salt brine to disperse salty water down birch branches creating a salt aerosol climate in the cave.
Inhalations at the graduation tower are recommended for people suffering from recurring and chronic ailments of the respiratory system. Thus, patients with rhinitis, sinusitis, laryngitis and during the period of post-therapy of acute infections of the respiratory system will feel a relief. The brine aerosol also helps people to remove mucus during such ailments as, for instance, bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and bronchial asthma.
Our Infrared Sauna uses infrared panels instead of conventional heat to easily penetrate human tissue, heating up your body before heating up the air. It can operate at a lower temperature (usually between 120˚F and 140˚F) where a traditional sauna is typically between 150˚F and 180˚F. It is a dry heat, no humidity.
The Infrared Sauna can help with:
better sleep
relaxation
detoxification
weight loss
relief from sore muscles
relief from joint pain such as arthritis
clear and tighter skin
improved circulation
help for people with chronic fatigue syndrome
Ionic Foot Detox draws toxin from the pores of your feet. the water is ionized and the ions are able to enter the body . The circulatory and lymphatic systems transport the ions and help pull the toxin out. Based on colors of the water determines the areas it could draw from.
We have a private Salt Booth (halotherapy) that is a higher concentration salt therapy and grinds medical grade salt into microscopic particles and releases them into the air of the room. Once inhaled, these salt particles are claimed to absorb irritants, including allergens and toxins, from the respiratory system.
We also have two amazing ladies that work at Salty! Meghan does facial and relaxation massage and Christina is the reiki master that does angel card readings, reiki, and chakra cleansing.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
We were shut down two days before our one year anniversary due to the pandemic. Being that clients come to us with breathing ailments and need to breathe deeply in their treatments it was a challenge when our doors reopened.
We had to do single cave sessions, and clean very thoroughly after each client. We used the private Salt Booth the most. Our clients usually have an underlying respiratory condition that made them coming into the public, removing their mask to breathe could do more harm if the got covid. We lost many clients and it took years for people to start coming out again into a place that promotes breathing. We offered many different event/classes like soundbaths, meditation, yoga, angel card readings in the cave.
We are now seeing many clients with lingering symptoms from covid and helping to relief some of their symptoms with halotherapy.
We still haven’t had a “normal” year to base our numbers on and are still trying to bring in new clients and help in anyway we can.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
WORD OF MOUTH! We have so many loyal clients that turned friends at Salty, they have helped so much by telling their friends and families about how we have helped them. We strive on being clean, calm, collected, 100 percent transparent, real and human. We just want to show people how to take a break from everyday hustle and put down the electronics and breathe.
We treat our clients like friends and thank them for trusting us with their natural health spa needs. We wouldn’t be here if they did believe in us.
