Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Candice Stephenson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Candice, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear from you about what you think Corporate America gets wrong in your industry and why it matters.
In the music industry, particularly with streaming platforms and music labels, Corporate companies often place too much focus on data and not enough on culture, which is the true force behind the trends that data eventually captures; regardless of the platform, it’s essential to step out from behind the desk and experience firsthand how your decisions are shaping listener behavior and industry trends at least once a quarter to ensure your business strategies and policies remain aligned with the evolving cultural landscape.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m Candice Stephenson. I own a music clearance and management company called PoshRebel Entertainment. I am also a licensed entertainment attorney focusing on podcast agreements, brand partnerships, and influencer agreements. I grew up loving music and television and always wanted to have a career in the entertainment industry. When I was in middle school, I applied to attend a magnet high school with a television production curriculum; this sparked my interest in television as a career. In college, I interned with a record label and a music management company. Upon graduating from college, I enrolled in law school to use my law degree to work exclusively in the music or television industry. I spent the first decade of my career working for various corporations, including ABC News, Spotify, and Complex Media, before starting my own music licensing and management company, which I run alongside my law practice.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Having good client referrals can be one of the most powerful ways to grow your business. When satisfied customers recommend your services to others, it acts as a trusted endorsement, building credibility and attracting new clients. People tend to trust recommendations from friends, family, or colleagues more than traditional marketing efforts because these referrals come from real experiences. Word-of-mouth referrals can be more cost-effective than paid advertising, and they often lead to higher conversion rates. A strong referral system not only boosts your client base but also fosters loyalty and strengthens your reputation within your industry.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
The Diary of a CEO by Steven Bartlett is a must-read for anyone starting their journey. It’s not just a book about business strategies; it’s a raw and honest look into the highs and lows that come with entrepreneurship. Steven shares real-life experiences, from overcoming self-doubt to navigating the pressures of success, which are lessons every entrepreneur can relate to. What I love about this book is its authenticity – it doesn’t sugarcoat the reality of building a business. If you’re new to the entrepreneurial world, this book will give you the courage to face the challenges ahead and the wisdom to build a business with purpose. Trust me, it’ll be a game-changer.
