We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Candice Mckinnon a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Candice, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s talk about social media – do you manage your own or do you have someone or a company that handles it for you? Why did you make the choice you did?

Currently, I manage my own social media and honestly it’s teaching me alot about having a ecommerce store, how to market and when to post. Until further notice, I will continue to manage everything myself.

Candice, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

Hi, my name is Candice Mckinnon, the owner of Glam by Candy. I am a self-taught luxury press-on nail artist with a cosmetic line. I thought of Glam by Candy when I saw myself being too busy for the nail salon, (not to mention high prices) and too busy for the stores. Hands full of kids and caring for my home. Press-on nails came to mind ! Knowing that it’s many more women in my shoes, I started Glam by Candy. Shortly after I expanded into cosmetics which includes quality products such as: Lipgloss, Handbags, Shades, Eyeshadow and Eyelashes, all products you can carry with you while on the go. Glam by Candy was established March of 2021, and it has been a learning experience, I have learned about the up times and down times, busy times and low times. The key is to stay consistent, keep your FAITH and PRAY often. The beauty industry is trendy and can be quite demanding, the key is knowing the gifts you have to be successful. Quitting is not a option! The problems I solve for many of my customers is being able to save time while on the go, while also being a fashion Queen! My brand sets apart from others because it is unique, authentic and is based upon the woman, the Queen, the Mom, and the Boss lady! My motto is “Put your crown on Queen”, which means no matter what happens in life you are A still QUEEN! I am most proud of not completely giving up when I had no encouragement or support from family and friends. I would like all of my potential clients, followers and fans to know I take pride in making quality, reusable press-on nails while satisfying any design, also insuring you LOVE it! Where do you think you get most of your clients from?

Although social media is the prime place to gain new customers, followers & fans. My best source of gaining new clients is from pop-up shops.

How’d you think through whether to sell directly on your own site or through a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc.

I sell my products through my site, www.glambycandy.online. I chose my own site because I knew I’d be starting from scratch and wanted everything to be GlambyCandy by itself. I love having my own site because it’s safe, confidential and brings more of me out/Glam by Candy. The cons are, I have to push harder to get my brand out there, push harder to keep vistors/customers engaged in my site.
