We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Candice Jarvis a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Candice, appreciate you joining us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
Growing up, I was always different than my peers. I never fit in despite my multiple efforts and I didn’t have any tangible talents or gifts. I have always been able to see beyond the surface of things and people, however, I never saw it as a strength. I’ve always like to write/journal, I wanted to help people (don’t we all) and I wanted to be in the medical field. That dream quickly dwindled after going through one of the darkest times in my life…oh and passing out in the hospital after seeing blood.
During undergrad I studied business and majored in entrepreneurship. My last two semesters consisted of me starting my own business (feasibility analysis, business plan, LLC, brand, etc.) and I had no idea what I wanted to do. During spring semester of 2016 it was getting down to the wire and I still didn’t have a business idea.
God gave me “CandiceP – Healing Begins on the Inside”. I took off and ran with it and said I would brand myself and create a blog site. I was so green lol. I was newly divorced and thought I was “healed”. I had my LLC, blog site, logo, the whole nine yards. I graduated with my bachelors degree and applied (a couple of times) for grad school because I wanted to be a therapist. I was not accepted either time.
Then I hit another brick wall because I did not have a vision of what would be next for my business. Little did I know, that word was for me…”Candice, you need to heal from the inside out.”
I spent the following years allowing God to break open my heart to reveal all of the hurt, pain, resentment, and trauma that had manifested itself as bitterness, avoidance, independence, pridefulness, and distrust. I had to rediscover my identity in Christ and embrace my lifelong healing journey. I now love and embrace my uniqueness, my boldness, my power and I know my purpose as a change agent for Christ.
Fast forward to 2023 and I am now remarried, two children and two bonus children, and wearing all the hats and doing all of the things. I felt like I had lost myself and had been giving my all to my family and others and God was still nudging me to revisit and relaunch CandiceP with the blurry vision He had given me.
In 2022, I decided to take a risk and relaunch CandiceP. I had no idea where the time, money, or help would come from. The vision that God was giving me was to publish and book and began speaking. In April of 2022 I randomly stumbled across a budget friendly online course on how to write a book. On June 15, 2022 I had written and SELF published my 1st prayer journal: The 30-Day of Inner Healing Prayer Journal.
Next, I began to explore the world of coaching. For so long I thought coaching was a scam until I began to research what coaching is truly about. I was already “coaching” others, so it was a no brainer, but I knew I needed training.
I told God that I wasn’t going to jump into any of the coaching programs that I saw because they were all secular. The last thing I’m going to do is abandon my Faith. Again, I was on Facebook and an ad came up: Certified Christian Life Coach. I kid you not!
The cost aligned with the budget and the classes aligned with my schedule. I spent the next 10 weeks getting certified. Then I spent the next 10 weeks becoming a certified Christian counselor. I seen none of this coming, but I chose to take a risk and step out on faith. I hosted my relaunch party, started getting clients, and had my first few speaking engagements.
Today, I stand before you as a Faith and Mindset Coach where I help women of Faith rediscover their identity in Christ, identify their purpose, reclaim their power, and become a master of self. I am also releasing the 2nd edition of my prayer journal this summer and I recently launch my first coaching program: FAITH-Full Mind 90-Day Transformational Coaching Program.
As a believer of Christ and having success in my personal and career life, I challenge you to take the risk. Keep going to see what the end will be.
Candice, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am Candice P. Jarvis and I am a Faith and Mindset Coach. I empower women of Faith to rediscover their identity in Christ and overcome stifling mindsets to take them from surviving to thriving.
I am a certified Christian Life Coach and Certified Christian Counselor.
My clients are women of Faith that are high achieving, but still feel stuck, overwhelmed, and unfulfilled. Typically, my clients are not able to see how trauma from their past is manifesting in their “today” and it’s keeping them stuck. My clients are also looking for clarity and direction with their calling and purpose.
I provide my clients with the tools, resources, tactics, and support to undergo a mindset transformation that results in increased confidence, communication, and self awareness all while strengthening their relationship with God. I help my clients with identifying their gifts, strengths, passions, and weaknesses. I help my clients to build fruitful relationship and increase their mental and emotional awareness.
I am most proud of merging my faith with personal develop to create powerful, bold, confident and clear women of faith. I am humbled to be able to share my experiences to serve others.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
“The moment I arrive will be the moment I become irrelevant.” -CandiceP
There is no arrival point.
This was a myth that I had to unlearn because to “arrive” means that I stop working or I have put a cap on my calling or I have reached capacity.
Our life is a journey filled with milestones that we reach from the goals that we set. Then we keep going.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
A leader is one that knows how to follow.
One of major resources that has helped me is getting into a coaching program for new coaches. After completing my certifications for coaching and counseling, I joined a coaching program that I am currently in. It serves to be amongst a community of like minded individuals and learning from those that have/are paving the way.
