We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Candice Hankins. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Candice below.
Hi Candice, thanks for joining us today. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
I have had two defining moments over the last two years.
The first would be my transition to Medical Mutual as a Supervisor from Cleveland Clinic as a Program Manager. One thing about me that most people do not know is that I do not have a college degree. So, over the years I have personally let that hold me back regardless of the experience or knowledge that I possessed. Once I began to see what my worth, then my confidence begin to grow. Over the years, I have had a multitude of leadership roles, but I underestimated the authority and power that I carried at that time. Becoming very relaxed and complacent in several situations. The main thing that I learned in that situation is that anyone can build a diverse portfolio, and that anyone can be me!
Defining moment in my career would be winning the Pink and Black Honors 2024 TECH of the year award. This award Is given to individuals who demonstrated outstanding innovation, leadership, and impact in the field of technology. The nominees also had to exhibit a pioneering spirit, notable contributions to technological advancements, and have a positive influence on the tech industry. Being nominated and honored by my peers further showed and helped me to understand that the opportunities and possibilities are endless.

Candice, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a mother, sister, friend, and entrepreneur with a passion for marketing and development and advocacy for the community. With over 24 years in the service and medical industries providing resources, referrals, planning, leadership programs/course, process improvements and administrative service to some of the top directors and programs in the world. The founder and owner of Ruthie’s List, an African-American female owned business connection and network. Providing a necessary space for entrepreneurs and consumers to connect and acquire resources and opportunity. Other businesses are Wilson’s Notary Services, Signature Mood (custom apparel) and Cross VIP Valet (mobile valet service).
I am most proud of the foundation and legacy I am building and will be able to leave to generations to come.
The main thing I want potential clients, followers and fans to know is that the Ruthie’s List network and experience is one of love, growth, inclusivity and acceptance.

If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
If I could go back and start over, would I choose the same profession? When it comes to customer service and experience absolutely, but I would honestly have continued my training in computer technology.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
There is a saying that “Hurt People Hurt People” and nothing could be truer. In our day-to-day activities as humans, we experience a lot. From employers to family, from physical health to mental health all these things can burden a person down. Part of my brand is making sure that I am authentic, genuine, and personable with everyone that I encounter. Whether it’s a potential client or just someone asking for advice or information. Providing that same experience to everyone is what has helped me build my reputation within this market.
