We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Candice Denise. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Candice below.
Candice, we appreciate you joining us today. What’s the best advice you ever gave to a client? How did they benefit / what was the result? (Please note this response is for education/entertainment purposes only and shouldn’t be construed as advice for the reader)
The best advice I ever gave a client was, ” Making Yourself a Priority isn’t Wrong.” Essentially we were in a coaching session and she was feeling guilty about seeing her needs as a priority above her family. I went on to explain to her that it’s not that your family is not a priority, it’s that you are also a priority. I helped her understand that you don’t have to choose between who is a priority, you need to include yourself in being a priority. With that understanding it gave her a level of ease and the permission to make herself a priority which was able to help her in fostering daily self care for herself.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
Who I am…
I’ve always been a visionary- it’s what fueled me and my 10+ years career in the event planning industry. But as my personal interest, passion and advocacy for wellness and self care grew, I knew that I could do more with my attention to details, logistics skills, project management, and creativity. My own self care journey + wellness experiences, knowledge, personal revelations and struggles as an entrepreneur, coupled with my desire to empower other women eventually led me to create CD Creative Loft, and now I work with high achieving female leaders, founders, entrepreneurs and organizations, around the country, teaching them how to prioritize themselves daily, remove self-care from their to do lists, work past the “guilt and selfish” stigmas often associated with self care, teach them how to easily infuse simple self care practices & routines into their busy day to day schedules to support their overall success, and maintain a lifestyle centered around putting their well-being, first.
As mental health, depression, anxiety, and extreme burnout continues to rise, the need and benefits of self-care in today’s personal life and workforce culture is needed more than ever. Many successful women need help developing a sense of work/life {harmony} in their day to day.
My mission is to create change on a larger scale-dismantling how highly driven, ambitious women in business view and utilize Self-Care because ultimately what you appreciate…appreciates. I am an avid believer that the key to a successful and sustainable life, personally and professionally, starts with a sustainable You!
Currently based in Maryland, I’m a proud alumna of Johnson C. Smith University and member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated.
If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
Yes, I would being able to help others gain the understanding, confidence and permission to take care of themselves so they can better take care of their families, businesses, etc. is truly a rewarding feeling. Helping others have a greater appreciation for themselves in the areas of self care and self love gives my life meaning.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Last year I decided to make a pivot in my business because I was no longer feeling as if it was aligned with who I am and where I was evolving to be. When I decided to move into the business of self-care coaching and consulting I did not know what to expect I just knew that I wanted to help other women understand how to truly take care of themselves so that they could not only be sustainable, but the lives they desire can be sustainable as well. Like any pivot it came with its highs and lows, but I’m grateful it has still been rewarding even in the midst because it feels like what I was called to do.
