We were lucky to catch up with Candaece Chatman recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Candaece, thanks for joining us today. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
I started my travel business with an idea to make money off my own travel. I made an investment in myself, it was a very affordable investment, and I haven’t looked back. The steps were easy, I joined a team, I already had a business, so I just created a new name under the umbrella for travel. The host company makes it very easy to understand, there are online trainings, weekly sessions and you set your own goals. My idea when I started was to solely make money off my own travel. It made sense to make the investment in becoming a travel agent because I travel very frequently. After I completed my training, (it took me about a week to complete the initial host requirements), I had to figure out my own schedule, how I was going to operate the business, and my platforms for getting the word out about my new endeavor. I booked my first two groups of travel a month later and the rest is booking history!

Candaece, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I have been traveling since I was 8 years old, I would travel to Atlanta from Florida for the summer to spend time with my Dad. My love for traveling was first introduced to me by my great Aunt Mildred Berry, we would travel to Miami, FL., just to go shopping! My daughter came along in 2015 and I have taught her the wonders of the world and that traveling is an art and form of learning different cultures. At the age of 9 she is the CEO of Golden Endeavors, LLC and I am the COO. She had been to 3 countries and 15 states.
The way I joined the travel industry is from my business partner Tara. I would see her on my Facebook page recruiting for travel agents or people to join her team and I would just keep scrolling. One day, I actually paid attention to her post, and I researched the information and realized how much money I could actually make off my OWN travel. I didn’t even factor in how much money could be made in helping others book theirs or helping them change their lives and become travel business owners themselves. I joined her team in January 2024, and I haven’t had any regrets. I love what I do, and I enjoy making money off doing what I love!! Owning my own travel business takes a lot of discipline and organization. I remain coachable and find ideas from other travel agents and others in the travel industry. I won’t stop until I have been certified on all ships as this is one of my specialties, and I plan on reaching the highest levels of training at my host agency.

How did you build your audience on social media?
Building a social media presence is important. Everyone is using it and it’s a great FREE way to market your product and business. I was able to build our social media audience by first engaging with others. There are so many people who will follow you because you engaged with them. We are on all platforms, and we post at least once a week on each platform.
Finding a trending topic, or hashtag is a great way to route people into your audience. Pictures are great, people don’t really like to read. Flexibility is the best way to go, define your goals, identify and focus on your targeted audience, optimize your social media pages, humanize your content, stay informed about trending things like algorithm changes and updates, build your editorial calendar, ENGAGE WITH YOUR COMMUNITY, and lastly monitor everything!!

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Word of mouth!! Honestly, when someone receives a service from us and we do a great job it makes our clients feel important. Clients love to be catered to as if they’re your only client, they notice, and they TELL other people!! Most of our customers have been referrals and we are grateful. We ensure the best experience regardless of the level or service, as every service is a Golden Endeavor and we set the bar extremely high.
Social media would be the second-best source, strangers are amazing!! Tik Tok and Facebook have brought us clients, so it’s best to find what works for you but be open to try every option. We have very supportive friends and family also, the world is our oyster! There is a method to having a variety of sources, but word of mouth stands as the best source of new clients for us at this time.
