We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Candace Martino . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Candace below.
Candace, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
I am definitely happier as a business owner! I absolutely love being my own boss and being the proud owner of my salon! It’s really something special and rewarding to build your business from the ground up and then pour your heart and soul into it and your craft! I can’t say I ever think about working a regular job because I did that for 11 years working as a Respiratory Therapist in a busy hospital and I don’t think I could ever look back!

Candace, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Candace and I’m a licensed cosmologist, lash artist and salon owner in Lancaster Pennsylvania. While working in my previous career as a respiratory therapist, I attended cosmetology school in order to pursue my passion in the beauty industry. From there, I was a freelance makeup artist for a short time and eventually decided to get certified in lash extensions! I quickly realized this was my thing and I became obsessed! I was trained by a local lash artist who I then worked for before opening my own studio. I pride myself on offering my clients not only exceptional work but a luxurious and relaxing experience. From the ambiance to the products I use to the end of appointment treat, everything is top notch and I wouldn’t have it any other way!

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
My amazing and beautiful grandmother left me money after her passing. I decided to use it to start up my business. I think she would be so proud if she could see me now!
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I started by taking as many photos as I could of my work and posting good quality edited images on instagram and Facebook! I also posted educational content as well as information about myself so that my viewers would begin to get to know me and be able to feel comfortable with me. When I first opened my business, I would do giveaways and specials to gain new clients. Overall I think good content and consistency is key!
