We recently connected with Candace Green and have shared our conversation below.
Candace, appreciate you joining us today. Do you think folks should manage their own social media or hire a professional? What do you do?
As far as Social Media goes, I manage my own accounts, all of them. Having Social Media as a business owner is like a full time job because it’s very important to be consistent with posting and putting out new content, everyday if possible. I believe as a business owner it’s beneficial to be active on social media because your posts can be seen by people all over the world and it helps with growing your business/brand and gaining new clientele. About 85 percent of my clientele came from social media. People I had never met either came across a post on my page or someone shared a post on my page and it grabbed their attention enough to want to inquire and book my services.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
A little bit about myself is that I was born in St Louis, Missouri and raised in Phoenix, AZ, which is where I reside currently of course. I am a mom to an amazing, beautiful, and smart teenager daughter.
I started in the food industry as a baker only in 2014 and in 2020 I revamped my business, but I do still bake, I offer catering and personal chef services for any special event or occasion that requires food and/or desserts.
Being in the food industry is a wonderful industry to be in because it’s forever changing and there is so much that you can do and offer for and to your clients. With that being said, you have to be very disciplined and dedicated to your craft so that you’re always creating and providing and offering many different dishes to your client so that you have a variety and something to offer for every client. Also, you must be consistent with creating content for your social media because that truly helps with building your brand and your clientele.
I am most proud of my growth so far, I started off not knowing too much as it relates to pairing foods and plating and now it’s like I can do it in my sleep! Lol! Everyday I’m just looking at ways that I can elevate myself and my brand to the next level and I’m always ready to learn from others that are where I want to be and soak up all the knowledge that they can give me.
As far as my brand goes, it’s growing! I have a lot of things in the works that I cannot speak on right now, but I’m certain that when the time comes my followers and supporters will be very excited and ready to support everything that is to come.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I built my audience on social media by just being consistent!!! It is hard to do because having a social media as a business owner is really like another job, but it is a job that you have to really put some work into. I try to post something at least everyday as it relates to food or even my personality because people want to see and know the face behind the brand as well. The advice that I have for someone that is just starting on social media is to just be consistent, look to see what the people trends are and post some things that are related to that and always engage with your followers as well.
Have you ever had to pivot?
I decided to pivot in business back in 2020. Prior to that happening I was only offering desserts as a service and then Covid hit. A lot of restaurants closed temporarily or you couldn’t dine in a lot of restaurants and it was pick up only. At that time I had been asked by a lot of my clients and just people I knew in general if I would ever offer catering as an option and at first I would always decline, but with how things were in the restaurant business during the start of covid I felt that the time was right and it was! Making that shift/pivot with my business was one of the best decisions I have ever made. To start offering catering and personal chef services during a time where the majority of people were not leaving their homes was very beneficial to me because so many people utilized my services and that is what really grew my clientele and my brand as well.
