We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Candace Foley a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Candace , appreciate you joining us today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
The LORD has orchestrated my life in excellence and my parents have been the pivotal foundation that has molded me as a person, woman, praise dancer, and praise dance instructor. They introduced me to CHRIST at an early age and I have loved and worshipped HIM ever since.
Growing up, whenever I expressed my dreams, my mother would echo, “don’t leave out GOD and what can I do to support?” It was her unselfish love and support that made me feel as if I could conquer the world. My dad would always say, “by GOD’S grace, you can do anything Candace.” They believed in serving faithfully in church, getting a strong education, learning about my history and serving the community. I have continued their legacy and because of it, I am a disciplined disciple, highly educated and a spirit filled praise dancer and praise dance instructor.
I had the dream of traveling the world and GOD opened the door for me to travel to Africa, Amsterdam, Ukraine, the Bahamas, London and Jamaica, to name a few, to share my love for HIM through dance and it was along that journey, I recognized how HE had chosen me to be one of HIS messengers through dance.
My parents chose to live their lives as an example to prove to me that if you trust, lean and depend on the LORD your steps will be ordered by HIM.
They told me that along my journey, I would face storms but remember to hold on to GOD’s unchanging hands and don’t quit. They told me everyone will not support your vision but don’t quit. Mom, said, “everyone attached to you isn’t assigned to you, learn balance and don’t quit.” Dad said, “everyone will not recognize you, but GOD will always take care of you, don’t quit.”
I have had my share of joy and pain but the joy has outshined the pain. I have to be transparent about the pain because I never want anyone to think it’s always easy. On this journey of becoming successful you will have speedbumps, but they are only there to encourage your faith and I’ve learned that in every lesson there’s a blessing.
If it wasn’t for my upbringing, I don’t think I would be afforded the opportunity to be who I am today, so it’s with great joy, I salute and honor my parents for being so amazing. I am who I am because of their love, support and wisdom.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Candace Foley and I am the lead servant of Ministry in Motion. My gift and love for dance was given to me several years ago and I am humbled in saying, “I still have it.” I couldn’t keep what GOD had given me all to myself so I took my gift, faith in GOD and developed Ministry in Motion. Ministry in Motion is a dance company that inspires, encourages and develop young ladies in serving the LORD through dance. The young ladies have created a sister hood and it inspires me daily when I see their love for CHRIST, myself, and with each other.
Providing a solid foundation for the young ladies who join, involves, monthly assignments, fun filled outings and community service, to name a few. The one thing that sets Ministry in Motion apart is the anointing. Though no one is perfect, I can see clearly the anointing not just on my dancers but myself and my ministry. As stated before in my last interview, I am most proud of the young ladies that create, Ministry in Motion. The one thing I want you all to know about Ministry in Motion is that we don’t perform we minister.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being the leader of Ministry in Motion is witnessing my life and my ministry being a blessing to others.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn several lessons but the one that has caused the most relief, was learning how to let go of those not assigned. I thought helping everyone was the answer but I quickly learned, I am not GOD. Let go and let GOD, but don’t quit.
