We were lucky to catch up with Candace Brooks recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Candace thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
I am very happy to be a business owner, I have always prayed about owning my own business. When I was a teenager in high school, I thought about owning my own business. I just didn’t know what kind of business. Now that I am older, I’m 37 years old married with 2 kids I look at my little family and I see that yeah, I have to do more for them and for myself. In 2013 when I was pregnant with my oldest son, I was cooking up ingredients for hair growth and oils to help nourish the scalp that’s when it dawned on me that I can sell my hair products. With that in mind there was so much that was going on in my life that stopped me from doing that, and that was working my 9-5 job and also suffering from MS (Multiple Sclerosis). I have worked in the food industry for 11 years and call center for 3 years. Do I sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job NO! I do not think about that cause I already lived that life of micromanaging, not having a life outside of work, stressing about not having enough hours just to make ends meet. I wouldn’t want to go back to that, I was laid off of work February 3rd, 2020, I worked at a call center that I just didn’t care about and the day they laid me off that was the day I made the decision to go Full-Time with Kandeez Delite Hair & Beauty, all I have to say is it was the best decision I have ever made.

Candace, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m Candace Brooks CEO/Founder of Kandeez Delite Hair & Beauty LLC. I’m a wife and mother of 2, I’ve been making my handmade hair care products for 9 years. It all started in my small apartment in my kitchen cooking up ingredients to help my family with their hair issues like eczema, dandruff and hair loss. I grew my company from the ground up testing products that I knew will make a difference not only for my family but for everyone who is also suffering to achieve their hair goals. I’m so proud of my growing business seeing where I started from and where I am now, the only person I can say thanks too is God, he has given me a gift to not only help myself but to reach out and help others to bring back the confidents in themselves. I have a very special customer who has tried everything to grow her strands, she is suffering from Alopecia. One day she came across my products, she gave me a chance to prove to her that my products can grow back her troubled areas, a month later she messaged me thanking me she said, “I had areas on my scalp that has never had hair before until I used your products thank you so much”. Seeing the feedback, that brings so much joy knowing Kandeez Delite is not only part of her hair journey but part of her testimony. The one thing I want my potential customers to know is to trust the process, it’s a journey that we are all on together. If you are looking to grow your strands Kandeez Delite has our #1 best seller our Herbal Hair Growth Oil, Herbal Hair Growth Butter, if you are looking for an oil to help nourish the scalp, we have our Scalp Oil Treatment and to soften the strands we have our Moisturizing Hair Cream. Kandeez Delite Hair & Beauty will soon be a household name.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
I believe the most effective strategy to grow your clientele is going out doing vendor events in your community doing word of mouth, developing your e-mail listing and of course social media. Having a great strategy for your company is key to any success for a company. Doing the research finding your target audience, Once I found my target audience it was up hill to success from there. Advertising every day letting my audience know what new products I have or what sales I’m having for the holidays. Getting my clientele to trust in me and my business.

Have you ever had to pivot?
There have been so many pivotal moments in my life but the one that stood out the most to me is when I was laid off from my 9-5 job, at that time I worked in the food service industry for 11 years, I decided to take a different path in the work force. I started working at a call center for almost 3 years until February 3rd, 2020, my department was let go, and we all know how troubling the year 2020 was, covid happened everyone was losing their jobs due to it and at that moment I knew I had to make a change not only for me but for my family. I took a leap of faith and started betting on myself I started looking up vendors to buy from for my bottles and jars, ordering my ingredients and from there I got Kandeez Delite Hair & Beauty ready for everyone to buy.
