We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Camron Gonzalez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Camron below.
Camron, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
From my earliest childhood memories to adult hood my mother has always been my superhero. Growing up we had our share of struggles but one thing we were never was without. My mother worked so hard to provide for my brothers and I, I remember thinking to myself, “how does she do it!”. My mother not only taught me but displayed the lessons in life she was to teach me in her own life every day. Being compassionate and kind to all I encounter, praise God in all occasions, forgive as quickly as I got upset, hug often, and value my relationships with my brothers and sister. Anything I wanted to get involved in whether it was sports, art, or band, my mother always made it possible for me to turn my dreams into reality. When I started my career as a musician full time my mother had my back, she was my second pair of ears for every song I showed her, she was the loudest cheering for me at my football games, band recitals, concerts, and she always made time to listen. Even when I would be so hard on myself no matter the situation my mom was there. As I’ve grown on this journey of mine my family to has grown, I understand people I love had to sacrifice some of their own wants and needs in order for me to be where I am at. It is because of my mother’s unfailing love and my family’s love and support for not just me but each other and our faith in the Lord that has gotten us where we are today.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
So, for those who may not know I am an independent rapper, songwriter, recording/mixing engineer, as well as a recording and performing artist. My stage name is Vsion music, I have been songwriting for almost 10 years and have engineered for almost 8. I didn’t start off with all the fancy studio equipment you might think funny enough my first song ever recorded was on an old android phones voice memo app with a beat from YouTube playing from the TV. Those days were so fun even if the quality was terrible the passion and love for the art grew every day. Eventually I worked my way up to a simple home studio setup that’s when I really started diving into the art of mixing and recording constantly educating myself in order to better my craft. Before I knew it, I was fortunate enough to do live performances being able to showcase my strengths and better my weaknesses while also opening doors to opportunities I didn’t know were waiting for me. Things really shifted when my mother told me about a program at the New Mexico Junior College that offered classes including hands on work in a real studio. That is where I met some of the greatest musicians I know, I learned how to set up a recording session for a whole band, the ins and outs of the music industry, and I performed and collaborated with some of the best musicians in the industry. I am most proud of the successful concerts and relationships I have made throughout my career so far as well as the new music always being produced.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist for me is being able to share my story with others. I get to connect with my audience more intimately during live performances because they can feel the raw feeling and emotions through my music. I am not scared to talk about the hard things in life when it comes to my music. A lot of music that is out now lacks purpose and true meaning when I create a song it’s not only a form of therapy for me, but I hope to connect with my listeners by letting them, know they are not alone or the only ones feeling the way they do. Sharing my testimony through music is rewarding when it helps others get out of that dark place, they thought they were alone in. Theirs a light to be shared and I’d like to help shine that light on others.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
When I first started creating music my main goal was to become rich and famous as you can imagine. Over time my priorities changed now my goal is to transition into Christian rap. My faith is something I hold dear, and I realized I can make music whenever and wherever I want to I am a musician at heart however that is not the only piece to me. Now I dive into the bible and other educational readings to apply to my music. I am at the early stages of this transition, but I have no doubt the rest will work itself out with hard work and a strong foundation of faith.
