Camp, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
Our most meaningful project to date is our most recent EP ‘Do you regret it?.” As queer artists navigating the industry and world it feels special and important to be able to contribute more femme queer narratives to the indie music scene.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
We’re a femme folk pop trio based out of Brooklyn NY. We’ve all been performing for the majority of our lives in various projects but have found a unique creative synergy with each other. In Camp Bedford tunes you’ll hear powerhouse vocals and tight harmonies blended with folk-country instrumentation. Our lyrics are inspired by our real life experiences as queer women – both specific and relatable.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
We want people to feel represented, celebrated, and heard. Camp Bedford is more than just a band – it’s a community.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
As women in a male-dominated industry, we’re often taken less seriously than our male peers, the assumption being we are less experienced technically, or have a lack of industry knowledge. We’ve had to let of go of a learned acceptance of that treatment and consistently remind ourselves that being vocal and advocating for ourselves is not “rude” and that we’re worthy of being heard in any space we’re in.
