Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Camilo Velasquez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Camilo, thanks for joining us today. Let’s jump back to the first dollar you earned as a creative? What can you share with us about how it happened?
The first time I generate a dollar with my instagram account was after one of my restaurant videos went viral on Nashville and different restaurants reached me out to invite me to dinner in exchange of a post, but one specific invited me just to try their food, no post, no stories, just to try the food.
It was a Colombian street food foodtruck called SausFries. After I tried their hotdogs and loaded fries, they reached me out again to make a paid collabration.
I was shocked because I did not know how much to charge, so I went to their place, shoot the content, posted it and asked them $300 i think it was. That was a lot of money for me just to make something I really enjoy.
They agree and a couple days later the video went viral and their sales went up.
That’s the power when you make things with heart and all your effort.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Camilo, I´m a Colombian travel content creator living in Nashville, TN. I make videos about my adventures and recommend places I visit, places to eat, to travel, and fun things to do in Nashville and the US.
M passion for traveling “Full time” started in 2019 with my first solo eurotrip, it changed my life. The freedom feeling of meeting new people everyday, new places, sparked something inside of me that make me want to travel as much as I can.
I moved to the US in 2021 and I didn’t know that much about Nashville. I was searching on Instagram, TikTok and google about things to do in Nashville and I found some information in english but ZERO in Spanish.
I started to visit places in and close to the city and post videos of them in Spanish on my instagram.
I was the first account or one of the first accounts to create content in Spanish about Tennessee, reaching the audience that did not know where to go or did not know what to do on the weekends because they do not speak english.
I´m really proud of the work I´m doing now, because I share valuable content to my audience, now not just about Nashville and Tenessee, but from different cities across the country.
This platform gave me the opportunity to share local restaurants and business to help them reach new potential customers and grow their dream while I grew mine.
Right now I´m partnering with a company to make group trips on an RV to different states and it’s been amazing to connect and travel with people from my community in the real life.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Building an audience, a true audience, in social media requieres time, effort and dedication. As every business when you start from the beginning it is HARD, but you have to have three things clear: Your purpose with your account, what’s your differential and being constant
Your purpose: Why are you posting,? Is there a value that you provide to your audience? Do you enjoy shoot and edit your videos or photos?
Your differential: What do you want to transmit to your audience? What´s that add value you give to them? How do you want to make them feel when they watch your content?
Being constant: None of the above is valid if you only make it once. To make a real impact on your community you have to be constant and provide value every week.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Being able to get paid to travel is something that still blows my mind, I don´t live full time of traveling (yet) but partner with big companies that like and trust in my work is something really rewarding.
I also love everytime someone DM me saying thanks for my recommendations, or tips, because based on that they created their own itinerary, or went to a place a posted and they liked it.
