We were lucky to catch up with Camilo Segura recently and have shared our conversation below.
Camilo, appreciate you joining us today. It’s easy to look at a business or industry as an outsider and assume it’s super profitable – but we’ve seen over and over again in our conversation with folks that most industries have factors that make profitability a challenge. What’s biggest challenge to profitability in your industry?
For me, the biggest challenge is get deeply know my clients. Know their needs, wishes, thoughts, etc. and transform them into a materialize idea. At the same time, be empathetic with them, understand how they want to make their lives easier, functional and productive in their living environment!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Camilo Segura, I am from Cucuta, Colombia. I received my architectural degree in 2017.
I left Colombia in 2018 and traveled to the US, seeking a better life for myself and my family residing in Colombia. From selling pots in New York to working as a cook in a Colombian restaurant, I have never ceased to believe in my potential; and continue to pursue my ambitions to build my business and become a successful entrepreneur.
At times, I fell short and wanted to quit; but on the day I was traveling from Colombia to New York, I met a woman on my flight. We sat next to each other and I had the opportunity to share snapshots of my life story.
She was impressed with my life’s journey. I gave her my resume, and we parted but remained in touch. A few months thereafter, I had the opportunity to relocate to South Florida and met her husband, a structural engineer.
She and her husband believed in me and provided me with the opportunity to work in their company. This opportunity provided me with great knowledge regarding building construction, design, and the construction market here in the US.
Many challenges followed, but today, I’ve created my own company in interior architecture industry where I assist single family homeowners to reconnect with their spaces through simple, strategic and planned interventions. Also, working along with architects, designers, and builders. I continue to promote my own brand and continue to develop innovative ideas in the field of technology and architecture.
Also, I keep educating myself in areas of study in my career, as a BIM technology master and tutoring architecture/interior design students about my knowledge as well. With great support from those who believe in me, my family, and my friends, I continue to persevere and grow.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy I have had to grow my client base consists of three factors. Firstly, identifying my niche market. Whom do I want to help? What problem or situation am I going to solve for them? Who is my ideal customer? Secondly, creating a value proposition that makes them feel that I am the solution to their problem or desired situation. And thirdly, being consistent in my approach, carrying out my work with 100% professionalism, consistency, and responsibility. I aim to make them feel that we are not just a company and a customer, but rather a team.
I also want to add that being consistent in my social media content has been a driving factor that has generated interaction with my followers and my target audience. Creating tips, ideas, giving some advice, etc. to make their problem solved.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
As I mentioned in the previous question, it involves identifying my niche market, defining a value proposition, and creating content that resonates with my audience. Being consistent by creating videos, photos, reels, and sharing stories of my daily life as both a person and a professional. I always say that in order to receive, one must give.
