We recently connected with Camilo Rodriguez and have shared our conversation below.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Through my knowledge of drums and percussion, I have participated in several international projects with artists such as Sebastián Yatra, Guaynaa, Tu Rockcito, 123 Andrés, MPP Entertainment, Paula Arenas, Mike Bahia, Magic Juan, Claraluna, Eddy Herrera, Mickey Taveras, Lucas Arnau, Bonka, Sin Ánimo de Lucro, Manuel Medrano, Cali y el Dandee, Charlie Zaa, Llane, Los Tri-O; among others.
Session musician in studio such as Art House of producer Julio Reyes, SAE Institute Miami with producer Shafik Palis.
Since 2016, based in the city of Miami, obtaining an O1 talent visa; Currently residing in the United States.
Current voting member of the Latin Grammy Awards for more than 8 years. Several nominations as a musician and engineer at the Latin Grammy Awards.
Producer with my own project called “Coconut Project”.
I have been in the music industry for more than 20 years, initially as a Latin percussionist for different projects in Bogotá, Colombia. A few years later, I became known for my drumming skills. I was always very consistent with the discipline I had with my instrument from the beginning, both theoretically and practically. Throughout my career I have obtained some skills for different musical genres, and perhaps that has been my most important tool; Of course, apart from the discipline and character as a responsible person that one must have.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding thing about being an artist is being able to leave a mark, being able to have memories of unforgettable moments that I have had in my career, unimaginable places that I have been able to visit and incredible stages around the world. Leave captured in a recording of a song or an album, that memory that I will be able to listen to at any time in my life.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I believe that the goal at the end of this entire path, like any other, will be economic stability. But to obtain this, I think it is very important for the artist to be original, to be creative, to be able to stand out for ideas, for contributions to different projects, for good values as a person. All of this will surely lead you to the goal that many of us have.
