We recently connected with Camille Walker and have shared our conversation below.
Camille, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Folks often look at a successful business and imagine it was an overnight success, but from what we’ve seen this is often far from the truth. We’d love to hear your scaling up story – walk us through how you grew over time – what were some of the big things you had to do to grow and what was that scaling up journey like?
For years I assumed I had to choose between motherhood & pursuing my passions. I am formally a certified teacher, but found myself in the financial world working as a mortgage broker. In 2008 we experienced the mortgage crash and recession. I became a mom and lost my job that year. It was a huge shock to my life but I welcomed motherhood and loved the new journey of being a mom.
A few years passed and I realized that while I was in love with motherhood I felt my mental health declining. I wanted to connect with others, teach, share, and build a community. MyMommyStyle.com was born and I have been blogging and sharing parenting/recipes/travel for years. I have worked with amazing brands and collaborated with the most amazing people.
Another big movement happened with the pandemic and again I shifted into something more.
I now podcast at Call Me CEO, sharing stories of moms building businesses. I coach women who are busy entrepreneurs and need help with creating a healthy work/life balance. I help them hire virtual assistants from my group of women who I teach how to build their own virtual assistant businesses.
It is a full circle service that helps women wanting to have a flexible at home job and also those who need help with overwhelm.
When I learned how to let go and ask for help that is when my business grew and my life felt so much more in sync with what success looks like for me. I love helping other women do the same.
Camille, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My two websites are mymommystyle.com an amazing resource for kids activists, recipes, parenting and more.
And CamilleWalker.co
I am now coaching women and helping them answer these questions:
1.How can I make money from home?
2. How to I clear up space and grow my business without the burnout?
Whichever side you fall on I offer coaching for work/life balance for busy moms. Helping you create a full life that you can enjoy is my goal!
How did you build your audience on social media?
Social media is about showing up consistently with a message/content/entertainment that allows your audience to say “me too.”
We want to feel connected and validated in what we are going through.
It’s important to take breaks and get comfortable recording video. Start by practicing with Marco Polo, as it will help you get more comfortable with seeing your face and your voice on video.
I’m having a lot of fun using the app captions for engaging text over the video.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Solve a problem and then share with others how to solve the same problem. For me this was figuring out how to create multiple streams of income and then hire a team to help me build passive income. For me this is ad revenue from my site, affiliate sales, digital products, and selling my course.
I am able to maintain my social media, content editing, and marketing with the help of virtual assistants. I can help other business owners edit their time and make systems and hire team members to create a smooth approach to life.
