We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Camille Kutz a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Camille thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Often outsiders look at a successful business and think it became a success overnight. Even media and especially movies love to gloss over nitty, gritty details that went into that middle phase of your business – after you started but before you got to where you are today. In our experience, overnight success is usually the result of years of hard work laying the foundation for success, but unfortunately, it’s exactly this part of the story that most of the media ignores. Can you talk to us about your scaling up story – what are some of the nitty, gritty details folks should know about?
Without the revolutionary concept of airbrush phone cases, my business would not be where it is today. Up until last October, I had never sold a phone case. Why would I? I had some clothing orders here and there, but it was sufficient since I was constantly hitting the books for school. One day, the idea was formed that I would put my designs on a case. A mock-up was created, and I never looked back.
One of the largest positive outcomes is the idea of “made to order” products. This means there never has to be inventory – ever! When someone places an order on camairapparel.com, Wix, the web development company I use to build my site, directly imports the order to my manufacturing company, allowing me to focus on marketing, photography, physically airbrushing, managing social media, and handling customer service.
Seeing a satisfied customer post with your product is completely worth it in the end.
Even through the tedious difficulties that arise with owning a small business, nothing is more inspiring and motivating than seeing your work in the hands of thousands.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I believe that I am set apart from others due to the creative nature of my pieces. While other companies mainly design digitally, all of my work stems from something I created by hand. I believe this has been a main factor of steady sales, new and returning customers, and referrals.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
If you are just starting out on social media with your business, make sure it is something you are completely and utterly obsessed with. You will get burned out fast if you are not fully in it for the long run.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Throughout this wonderful journey of owning my own business, I was in college getting my degree for Speech Language Pathology. Balancing these two was not easy to say the least. When faced with the reality of time management, I realized the potential of my business and decided to fully commit. As of now, I am dedicating 100% of my time to CamAir. Even through the breakdowns and thoughts of doubt, I have always made time for my business. I have realized through hard work, passion, drive, and determination, you can achieve anything you want.
