We were lucky to catch up with Camille Khali recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Camille thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
To be honest, as a child I was always into the performing arts and even recall wanting to be an actress early in life – but it was all just a “dream”. Eventually I found myself being able to express myself physically through athletics growing up but it wasn’t until after completing my time as a D1 college lacrosse player that I found the need to re-channel my energy into re-awaking my childhood dreams again – professionally.
Camille, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I was born in Los Angelos California, raised in good ole Round Rock Texas, and had the pleasure of spending a few years out in the beautiful mountains of Lynchburg Virginia completing my undergrad. I officially got into the fashion industry around 2014 – a year or two after I was done with my career as a collegiate athlete. There was a shift of energy and I knew I wanted to transcend into something greater. I quickly found my new passion in fashion and knew it would allow me to continue to be free, speak my mind in an unconventional way, but most importantly open new doors creatively.
On one hand I completely love being in front of the camera, so as a model I bring a fresh, fierce, and sultry presence to the scene. I also thoroughly enjoy working behind the camera on production sets contributing to the completion of films, shorts, and commercials. Naturally my ability to connect with people on an immense scale and even being able to evoke emotions through my photographs is an incredible talent I’m grateful to possess. Not only that, I’m really proud of my ability to perservere throughout the last decade! A forever changing industry. Most people are hesitant to embark on the part of life that’s unknown or even a bit intimidating. That’s one thing about me I’m fearless and desire to get to the other side. My next step is to get signed and booked by major brands, corporations, and deals.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
A time when I had to pivot in business, my career, or life is when I had to make the decision to quit my corporate job to take care of my mother who was battling with cancer at the time and it had returned. It came right after a major promotion and it was the first time I felt empowered by leaving my career at the time to do what was absolutely vital for my family. This was the changing point in my career overall.
What do you find most rewarding about being creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative is the freedom to have unlimited authority over your imagination and what you share with the world.
