We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Camille Kauer. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Camille below.
Camille, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I’ve always had a passion for storytelling, whether that was through acting, hosting, or interviewing fascinating people on my podcast, The E-Spot with Camille. I studied sociology and theater, and I also had the benefit of growing up around the entertainment industry, which gave me early exposure to the ins and outs of production and performance. But much of what I learned came from being on set, interviewing guests, taking biweekly acting classes, and adjusting as I went along. Watching and listening to my episodes was a massive part of my hosting and editing growth.
Honestly, I wish I had listened to my husband and started putting myself out there sooner without worrying so much about perfection. He was always suggesting me for opportunities I didn’t think I was ready for. He was right, all along. I only needed the confidence and courage to believe in myself. I spent way too much time trying to get it “just right” and thinking I needed everything perfect first instead of just starting and refining along the way. Networking earlier and finding the legit mentors in each field would have made a huge difference, too.
Being an active listener is everything. Whether you’re acting in a scene or hosting a podcast, it’s about connecting and reacting authentically. Adaptability, curiosity, and confidence are also crucial. On the technical side, understanding lighting, editing, and social media strategy became essential, especially once I started producing my own show.
Time, budget, and access were significant challenges. Finding time to study, practice, and promote wasn’t always easy as a mom and someone balancing multiple roles. Also, not having consistent access to mentors or industry insiders made the journey feel isolating at times. Being able to carve my path and create my own opportunities instead of waiting for them, has been a life saver in these uncertain times.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m an actress, print model, TV host, voiceover actor, and founder of The E-Spot with Camille, a podcast and media platform where I spotlight creative entrepreneurs and entertainment insiders. I grew up around the entertainment and beauty industries. I studied sociology, theater, esthetics, and digital marketing, which helped me build a unique career in front of and behind the camera.
I love acting, and doing red carpet interviews, podcasting, often focused on amplifying underrepresented voices, also helps improve my improv skills. What sets me apart is my authentic connection with guests, deep industry knowledge, and commitment to celebrating all forms of creators in entertainment.
I’m most proud of the community I’ve built through The E-Spot, interviewing everyone from Emmy winners to indie creators and covering fun events like GalaxyCon. Whether hosting, performing, or producing, I’m about uplifting others and telling impactful stories.
I love meeting people that support my show and we often become friends which is a win-win in such an isolating industry.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Society can best support artists by investing in arts education, funding independent creators, and making space for diverse voices, on screen, behind the scenes, and especially in leadership roles. A thriving creative ecosystem depends on access, opportunity, and platforms that value originality over algorithms.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is the work connecting to the audience, whether it’s making someone feel seen through a story, inspiring a listener through a podcast episode, or capturing a powerful moment on the red carpet. Nothing is like knowing your work sparked a conversation, emotion, or new perspective. That impact is everything. Getting booked regularly by my agent for the same brands is also great. There is nothing like a confirmation email for a booked job, except for the payslip notice or residual check in my mailbox.
