We were lucky to catch up with Camille Cook recently and have shared our conversation below.
Camille, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
Instilled in me the importance of always being kind, smile even when you aren’t feeling your best, Trust God at all times and know that everyone goes through a storm to get to their rainbow.
Camille, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner with a background in Dermatology, cosmetic surgery and owned a medical spa where I specialized in skin of color and provided anti-aging services.
I have a passion to serve others and educate them on improving their largest organ, skin. My son Bryce suffers from eczema and husband Tifiro spent over 10 years on kidney dialysis and is a two-time kidney transplant survivor and both struggled with skin complications.
I created and developed an all-natural body cream in my kitchen in 2011 due to their conditions and my not wanting them to continue using topical steroids, other unhealthy agents, and seeing them miserable by constantly scratching, digging, flaking, bleeding and being self-conscious about the appearance of their skin. As a wife, Mama Bear, healthcare provider, and solution seeker I just couldn’t sit back and watch and not do something about it.
Not only did their skin improve dramatically but so did their confidence! They kept asking me to make it despite the long hours it takes to make. They became addicted to the product! They wanted it and their skin needed it! Which is why we coined the term, Creamy Crack. It’s a healthy addiction for your SKIN!
I believe everyone deserves to have their skin moisturized, nourished, healthier, and protected. Still working full-time as a family nurse practitioner, I saw others suffering from the irritating symptoms of eczema, rosacea, psoriasis, kidney dialysis, radiation treatments from cancer, surgical wounds and dry, itchy, flaky skin.
I wanted to make a difference, an impact! And I knew Creamy Crack had done just that for my family, friends, colleagues, neighbors and the 50 people focus group I trialed it on. With the encouragement and support of my husband and son, I sold my first jar in 2021 to a friend who underwent a bilateral mastectomy (removal of both breasts) due to breast cancer. I am forever grateful for her and her willingness to try my handmade product on her then new surgical wounds. Her surgeons even complimented her on how well her skin healed. She is still one of my best customers today.
Creamy Crack, is an all natural, steroid free, dermatologist approved, oncology safe, and suitable for all ages body cream. It can be used as a daily total body moisturizer. As I continue to grow and the universe aligns, my mission is to continue running a spiritually grounded and compassionately-driven business serving everyBODY I can with humility!
If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
If I could go back and do this thing called “life” all over again. I would ABSOLUTELY choose the same profession. My product solved a problem for the two loves of my life. My son and husband. When my son told me “Mom, how does it feel to know you created a product that healed me!” Right then, I knew the long sleepless nights of making batches of Creamy Crack, diligently researching and mixing natural ingredient after natural ingredient, conducting a focus group and having them try it, seeing smiles on my family and friends faces from improving their skin challenges. It was all worth it! With that said, I knew I needed to share that same love I put into my creation of Creamy Crack for the two of them with the rest of the world. Now, I get to be a part of helping improve another person’s largest organ and confidence as well. I’m carrying out my purpose and passion all in the same breath. There’s no other way for me. I’m serving others with humility!
Can you talk to us about how your funded your firm or practice?
Sacrifice! Mic drop. No vacations, no spending money frivolously, and no taking out loans/lines of credit. Just working full-time as a family nurse practitioner and then working part time as a bachelor’s prepared registered nurse (BSN RN) helped me put together the initial capital to launch, Creamy Crack All-Natural Body Cream. There are still challenges as I grow. That’s for sure! Especially, when you still have bills to pay at home too. Unfortunately, when you’re a start-up company its extremely difficult to get the funding needed to start your business from a bank, lending institution, or grants. Sad but true. However, they say you appreciate things more when you’ve put skin in the game. If it was easy everyone would be doing it!
