We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Camille Baker. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Camille below.
Camille, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
For me, creativity became my safe space before it ever became my power. Growing up, I wasn’t always confident in my own skin. I knew what it felt like to be overlooked, or even picked apart by others. I carried those insecurities for a long time, second-guessing myself and shrinking into the background. But art, whether it was through fashion, writing, makeup, or self-expression—was my escape. It was the one place where I could be bold without fear, where I could create the version of myself I wanted to be, even if I wasn’t quite her yet. It took one night out to boost my confidence and that one experience of feeling on top of the world. That energy poured into everything. I started embracing my creativity in ways I never had before and I really felt comfortable with myself. Whether it was curating outfits, writing, or even just carrying myself differently, I realized I had something to offer the world. The same girl who once felt invisible was now stepping into the light, not just existing but owning her presence.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
It’s crazy to think about how much I’ve grown into the person I am today. I wasn’t always confident, and for a long time, I struggled to find my voice. Fashion has always been a passion of mine, and I’ve had a keen eye for it for as long as I can remember. But growing up plus-size, options were limited. Today, there are more opportunities in plus-size fashion, yet it’s still challenging to find your niche and clothes that truly make you feel confident. A lot of the pieces I buy and wear end up being altered to fit my personal style and I’m totally okay with that. I just want to put it out there: I am completely and unapologetically in love with myself. My hope is to inspire women to do the same to embrace who they are and feel confident in their own skin.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist and creative is the impact I have on others. For me, it’s more than just expressing myself through fashion and confidence—it’s about creating a space where women feel seen, empowered, and inspired to embrace themselves fully. One of the most heartwarming experiences is receiving messages from women who tell me that I’ve helped them feel more carefree and confident in their own skin. Knowing that my journe, my struggles, growth, and self-love has encouraged someone else to step into their power is truly priceless. It melts my heart every time.
Fashion, for me, isn’t just about putting on clothes; it’s about self-expression, identity, and breaking the mold of society’s beauty standards. Growing up plus-size, I didn’t always have role models who looked like me or wore the things I dreamed of wearing. So now, being able to be that person for someone else? That’s everything.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I had known earlier about size-inclusive fashion brands, tailoring, and the power of altering clothes to fit my style. Content creation tools like Canva, CapCut, and Lightroom would have made my journey easier, along with social media growth guides and networking opportunities. I also underestimated the importance of mindset—books, affirmations, and confidence-building resources have been just as crucial as the creative work itself. Looking back, having these tools sooner would have saved me so much time, but every step of the journey has shaped me into the creator I am today!
