Hi Camilla, thanks for joining us today. Has Covid resulted in any major changes to your business model?

Thank you for allowing me to share my story with your readers. The past few years have been full of changes due to the COVID-19 pandemic. I experienced various shifts and challenges in both personal and professional spheres, prompting me to reevaluate and adapt my approach to business.

Our decision to relocate and split our time between Asia, LA, and Belgium has provided me with a broader perspective and an understanding of diverse markets. As a video influencer, I have more than two million followers on my Chinese social media platforms such as Weibo, Red, Douyin (Chinese TikTok), etc. However, I have now decided to embrace international opportunities and focus on expanding my reach beyond the Chinese market.

Meanwhile, a fortuitous collaboration with my husband, a producer and director, has opened up new opportunities for us to work together on exciting projects. Working as a producer or EP has been fulfilling and has allowed us to navigate through challenges as a team.

Overall, it has been a year of growth and learning, and I am grateful for the opportunities that have come my way.

My name is Camilla Wang, originally from China. My roots lie deep within the fashion industry, where I first worked as a fashion editor at Vogue China. I later became a Director and partner in various fashion e-commerce platforms, delving into both media and e-commerce facets.

Currently, I juggle various roles as a video influencer, producer, and upcoming actress.

My journey has been quite the adventure, starting from the bustling fashion scenes of Beijing and Shanghai to a more nomadic lifestyle split between Asia, the US, and Europe.

This exciting chapter began when I teamed up with my husband in both life and work.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?

The story of how I met my business partner is quite serendipitous. My husband, a Belgian director working in China, lacked fluency in the Chinese language. When I initially joined one of his projects to assist with negotiations (for a major tech brand, by the way), little did I know that chance encounter would spark something much bigger.

As our collaboration deepened, I assumed the role of a producer, leveraging my expertise to facilitate communication and secure national investment for one of his short films. We’ve faced our fair share of challenges, but together, we’ve overcome them and celebrated our successes. Our bond goes beyond business – it’s a testament to the power of collaboration and a shared passion for creativity.

What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?

Transforming my side hustle into what it is today has been quite the journey. The key lies in learning from life experiences and the people you admire. As a video influencer, I sometimes work as a one-person team for larger-scale projects, servicing clients ranging from celebrities to major brands such as Coca-Cola, Huawei, LVMH, and many more.

My experience in those different fields allows me to smoothly handle every aspect together – from business and production to content creation and promotion. This knowledge has provided valuable insights, enabling me to transition seamlessly into a producer role alongside my current career.

At the end of the day, it’s all interconnected, so I’ve learned to never give up on my current endeavors and embrace change fearlessly.
