We recently connected with Camila Ladicani and have shared our conversation below.

Camila, appreciate you joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?

Ladicani Design is a unique brand with a defined mission- making simple, functional, and handcrafted stylish goods that are essential to our everyday life. As I always say, objects we carry with us are more just than accessories; they are full of stories and emotions. Our purpose is to make each product as useful as they are beautiful. Minimalist, stylish, and functional will always be our motto.

Camila, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

My name is Camila, and I’m the maker behind Ladicani Design. I’m 35 years old and was born and raised in Havana, Cuba, where I studied for 18 years to become a professional ballet dancer (now retired). I moved to the US almost six years ago. Firstly, I lived in Philadelphia for four years, a city with a special place in my heart, for it inspired me to develop my small business, and I couldn’t be more proud of it. All the skills and knowledge I know l learned by myself by watching videos, asking people with years of experience in the leather world, but also trial and error.

Starting Ladicani Design is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made in my life, even though it all happened right as the pandemic hit us in 2020. I then decided to relocate myself and my business to Miami a year and a half ago.

Raised in a family of artists, I have always been passionate about the world of visual arts. This upbringing instilled in me a curiosity for shapes, colors, lines, and textures, which I’d later begin to explore in leather. I strongly believe that when we’re surrounded by art, the world operates at its best.

Ladicani Design is a unique collection of leather accessories featuring minimalist and elegant lines, inspired by color, joy, and textures that celebrate and will be part of your everyday essentials. Among other products, you can find wallets, AirPod cases, sunglasses cases, keychains, card holders, belts, bags, and clutches. Pulling inspiration from colors found in nature and everyday life, each piece is cautiously handcrafted, making them special and unique.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?

Building a reputation is not easy; even more complicated in these times when a lot of people work in the same field and has years of experience. I think that having a great product, consistent quality, and showing my clients through social networks that everything within Ladicani Design is made by myself, with a lot of love and hard work, are the keynotes to building prestige and credibility within my market.

We’d really appreciate if you could talk to us about how you figured out the manufacturing process./

I lost my job because of the pandemic so I had to figure it out what to do to make money, but at the same time I wanted to do something that I would enjoy for the rest of my life. I started with the idea of my brand knowing nothing about the leather world, but with the clear vision of creating something with my hands. I launched Ladicani Design in 2020 right as the pandemic hits, so I couldn’t take any leather classes or so. All I have learned and all I know until now was watching youtube videos, tutorials, reading books, but also asking people who work in the same field and have years of experience. All my products are handcrafted by me in my studio, and it’s one the the things I love the most.
