We recently connected with Cameron Venti and have shared our conversation below.
Cameron , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you have a hero? What have you learned from them?
Definitely Peter McKinnon who is a fellow content creator. He is such a great story teller and can appeal to peoples emotions and I think he made me realize that I am not that person. I can’t write a compelling YouTube vlog or educational and engaging video and im totally fine with that. It’s so weird because anytime I feel like my photography and videography isn’t good enough or doesn’t get engagement on social media, he always comes up with some kind of video on YouTube that hits on those points and gets me out of my creative slump. Hope to meet him sometime and chat with him about running a content creation business.

Cameron , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Well my slogan is amazing content for amazing people. I started photography with just a drone way back in 2016 when they could only fly around 400ft away from you. Now they can go easily 4 miles. I think the problems that I solve for my clients is getting footage no one else can using my onewheel. In terms of photos I think a lot of photographers miss the human connection. You can’t just stand behind the camera and not know anything about the person in front of you. I like to have a conversation with the person as we are shooting so they forget the camera is there and that leads to really powerful images and video.
What im most proud of is I have only been in business for 2 years and already have enough clients to sustain living in los Angeles which is stupid expensive. I want people to know that if they work with me to never ask me how much I charge for some photos or video. So many times people will say hey I need some photos or I need some video… how much would that cost. I have a list of about 15 questions I ask every client to better understand why they need the content that they do and why their customers should care about the content I capture for them. That is what sets me apart from a regular content creator.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
it’s so silly but I have a lego skin that I put on my camera and people all over LA that I don’t remember seeing them remember me by my lego camera. That ALWAYS sparks a conversation and makes me way more approachable than the next photographer and it makes me stick out. I know it sounds so stupid but it has led to some fun and inspiring work.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
I use a website called Unsplash which allows me to put my photos on a free stock website. It seems like a dumb thing to do to list your photos for free but I’ve had multiple clients find me through it including one who I am e-mailing right after I finish this interview haha.
