We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Cameron Mcmillan a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Cameron, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
I’d have to say the most meaningful project I’ve worked on to date is my current two-sided album project called GEMINI. I’ve already launched the first side (called MASCULINE) with a ton of positive feedback and love, more than 40k streams on Spotify alone which is so sick! And then the second side (FEMININE) is launching at the end of May, the 27th, my birthday! This project has helped me focus on the bigger picture, working on a massive double album like this and have it out and promote it for years (the past 4 singles have been coming out since 2020 and the double-sided album concept I’ve been working on since 2017), it has helped me see that the longer distance is more rewarding than the quick sprint. It has also connected me with other fellow creatives like Zappa, who produced and made the dance beat in the chorus of my song “DA DA DA” or Robert Grant, who shot the amazing album covers and music videos for the albums. We all three are flight attendants on the side, so it’s super cool to be inspired and see other artists balancing and using our extra source of income to our advantage, whether it be flying to a city to perform or network or connecting with other artists.
Cameron, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Cameron Joshua McMillan, I am a wearer of many hats; singer, songwriter, recording artist, performer, actor, dancer, producer, director, but above all that I am a vocalist that creates his own art. I have a BFA in musical theatre. I am currently living in NYC where I have side hustles as a flight attendant and luxury catering working huge events like The Met Gala and The Oscars, where I plan to eventually be a guest to both soon. Wouldn’t that be so funny? Saying I used to be a server now I’m serving looks on the red carpet? I am constantly working on new music and the visualization of them because I believe strongly that music and visuals are a key way to get people immersed in your art. Music, dance, fashion and cinematography are all so important as part of my inspiration and artistry.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I strive to dominate the world with my music, one opera glove at a time. The essence of why I am here on this earth is to entertain, heal, bring joy and connect with everyone through my music and artistry. The goal is to spread that throughout the universe.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I find you always need to lean into whatever feels right and makes you excited about life. I go viral and gain a lot of followers and attraction when I’m more risqué with my body and for me that’s easy and what I like to integrate in how I showcase myself and it’s also naturally how I make my art and music. Just confidently showcasing your work however you feel is best for you and what comes naturally is what I’ve found is the best approach.
