Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Cameron Kuykindall. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Cameron, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We believe kindness is contagious and so we’d love for you to share with us and our audience about the kindest thing anyone has ever done for you?
As the leader of a newly-founded nonprofit organization, that isn’t yet a 501(c)3, the hardest days are our first days of operation in which we have to be significantly creative in how we secure and spend money for our non-profit initiatives. The mindset of our team, as experienced with our latest event is: 1) If we have a mustard seed of faith, God will move our greatest mountains, and 2) We can be bougie on a budget. This leads to directly answering the question. The kindest thing people have done for me is invest in the seed before they saw the crop. Essentially, that metaphor means many people have given their time, resources, and money to our vision before it was something they could see with their own eyes. In our consumer-driven world, we like to see the product before we pay for it. I am grateful for those who invested in the vision before they saw the product. Their investment helped produce the product, therefore making us more successful in our community efforts.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
The CamKuy Group is a community organization that seeks to “put unity in our community through boundary-breaking, diversity-building partnerships.” Our group is the parent organization for Cameron Kuykindall Ministries, Umoja-Kuumba Designs, The Annual Holiday Magic Toy Drive, I AM the Solution Mentorship Program, and the Annual Back to School Weekend (Community Bash & First Day of School Tour).
Our unique context shows that we are a minority group of teenagers and young adults who envision a better Memphis. Our cornerstone is partnerships, given we do not have many funds and resources as of now. Be that as it may, our partnerships with individuals and organizations fuel our work now and forever.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
For us, clients are our community partners and the community itself. I believe in showing people what they invest their time, resources, and money into. We use social media to do a supporter wall for our initiatives as a thank you to all our giving individuals and organizations. Starting in Sept. 2024, we will publish a newsletter to be sent to our emailing list and posted to our social media channels where we highlight community members and orgs, share updates on previous events, and give insight to upcoming ones as well. I believe that the community and our partners can see our passion and determination. We specialize in doing much with not so much and that I do take pride in. Our team, especially the Back 2 School Weekend Crew, learned the power of synergy in that everyone has something to bring to the table, equitably, to make our event more successful. Without the team, our event would not have happened. It’s not about me, but about us.
Does your business have multiple or supplementary revenue streams (like a ATM machine at a barbershop, etc)?
Although a non-profit, we have a for-profit sector through Umoja-Kuumba Designs, where we offer graphic design services. Through this, we directly benefit rising graphic designers through helping them sharpen their craft while providing clients with low-cost graphics. Essentially, it’s win-win.
