We were lucky to catch up with Cameron Gilmore recently and have shared our conversation below.
Cameron, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
In 2019 I had pitch the idea of starting a company with part-time college students with little to no business history. The first run at building the company failed bad..really bad. What I learned from that, made adjustments and in 2020 the birth of the company happened. In 9-months we did $34 million.
Had I not taken the risk, stuck to my 10 point structure and not allowed myself to self-destruct, I would not have built something great.
Cameron, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Cameron Little Wolf Gilmore. My wife and I are a blended family with 10 kids and 4 grandkids. I have experience at lot of hard ship through out my personal and professional life which is why I can relate to so many.
When I started my podcast in 2022, the goal to was and continues to inspire those that listen with tip, knowledge, self betterment and put them on the path to discovering their zone of genius. In 2022 my podcast was in the top 25% most shared globally.
My book was published in 2022 with the focus on mindset development for individuals. The way that I wrote my book is not like any book out there. I bring in interviews from CEOs globally, I layout tips and tools on how to better oneself and I even share how I was able to grow personally, professionally end spiritually.
I have failed so many times in growing business. I have failed so many times at trusting the wrong people. I have failed so many time at being authentic because I wanted to please the masses.
When businesses reach out to me and ask to consult for them, I turned down more than I will take on. The reason being is if my way of building a company, a culture, people, leadership and a brand for the company does not align with what a company looks for, we just aren’t a good fit. Over the 20 plus years I have been in business I have learned many great things and also learned a lot of many hard things. Through this, I have developed processes, procedures, and step-by-step instructions significantly increase the overall culture of a business. That is why people ask me and come to me for work.
When individuals reach out to me for coaching / mentorship, not everybody is a good fit for me. I have spent the better half of 15 years in personal development, mindset training, business development and no BS development to where I will only take on individuals that truly want to change the outcomes of their lives.
I have been mentored by billionaires and millionaires for the better half of a decade. The one constant theme that I have been instructed on are from two very famous quotes which over the years have taken on different shapes. Our love these two phrases of these quotes. “When you help enough people get what they want you will always have what you need.” “All ships rise with the tide, it is your job to bring in ships to rise with your tide.”
With me, you will get the rawness, mixed with tenderness and at the end, you will be in your zone of genius.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I’m half Navajo and half Scottish. My children’s mom is full blooded Navajo and lives on the Navajo nation. From 2012 to 2014 I went through a very long and lengthy process for custody. Being that the Navajo Nation was the controlling party over my children, I had to abide by the rules and laws of the Navajo Nation. This is completely different from the state or the US government. During this time also I was starting another company which I had received funding for and already in the process of building this company. Unfortunately, that company did not get off the ground and those that invested in the company lost their money. However, through not giving up nor giving in I was able to win my custody hearing and have sole custody of my children.
What the outside world needs to understand is the Navajo Nation does not nor have they ever awarded someone who is not born on the reservation, not full-blooded Navajo, does not practice the same religion and is a male. When I won my custody battle it changed the landscape of not only law practice on the Navajo Nation but law practice throughout all of the reservations.
