Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Cameron Earle. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Cameron, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I first knew I wanted to pursue music professionally back in 2012. It was the year before I moved to Los Angeles from Austin. I was living in a house with a few friends from high school and we all really loved music. It was a great environment for creativity. I could play my drum set in the evening, and write electronic music till the early morning. (luckily the neighbors never complained) It was the year that I released my first EP. Even though it wasn’t a great piece of work, the very fact that I could write and release music to the world, all by myself, was very inspiring. I had been writing my own music for about 3 years at that point, but it never crossed my mind that I could actually make a living doing music. About 7 months living in Austin, I had a profound and extremely intense psychedelic experience. It is still to this day the most awe inspiring and powerful thing I’ve ever gone through. Shortly after and feeling super inspired, I knew I wanted to take a chance pursuing music at the professional level. Within the next 2 months I came across Musician’s Institute, and knew that was my way of throwing myself into the fire. I wanted to grow, and I knew that moving to Los Angeles was the path for that.
Cameron, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My music journey began when I started playing drums at 12. My older brother played in a band in high school and hearing them practice growing up was very inspiring to me. It never hit me before how amazing it was to express yourself creatively. I didn’t start producing and writing my own music till my first year in college, at 19. I had no where to play drums at that point and I needed to fill my musical void somehow. My friend helped me get a cracked version of FL studio and I have been writing ever since. I produce and write all types of music, with electronic music being my specialty. I also perform DJ sets and live electronic sets using Ableton Live. When it comes to songwriting and producing, I think it’s essential to have the ability to wear multiple hats. Composer, lyricist, arranger, sound designer, engineer, and multi-instrumentalist are a just a few of the hats I feel confident in wearing, and I think that’s what sets me apart from others. I’ve noticed personally that if you can do a little bit of everything, it makes the process a lot more fluid. Getting in the flow state is really important for the creative process and if you don’t feel confident in your ability, you can be taken out of that state. I am most known for my solo act, aka ‘Enloh’, and that is the work that I am most proud of. If i were to get any point across about myself or what I do, it would be to follow you heart. I have had so many fulfilling and unforgettable experiences pursuing my passion, and the memories last a lifetime. I’m really grateful and excited to make music for the rest of my life.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My main goal in doing music is I hope to make a positive impact on the world. Music has been my therapy for a very long time and I hope the material I put out inspires someone else to do something great. Another goal that I have had for quite sometime is to buy a house with money that I’ve made purely off my own music. I’m not there yet and I still have a ways to go, but that will continue to be one of my goals until it happens. I don’t make or play music for the sake of money, but to be able to buy a home whilst fulfilling my passion is the greatest success I could achieve in my eyes.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I think the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is my deep love of the creative process. I think I feel the most fulfilled after a successful writing session. You can start with literally nothing, and if things go well you can have a fully written (at least the core idea) song in 3 hours. I have seen the progress year by year, and by striving to be the best version of myself, I have felt extreme gratitude through growth. I’m a better songwriter, producer, musician then I was last year. The goal is growth. One of the best things about music is the learning never stops.
