We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Cameron Cunningham . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Cameron below.
Cameron, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I was at an art show where I seen this canvas that I really liked and thought to myself that I can do this. I can paint this, and the very next day I went to target and bought a pencil and sketch book. I did a sketch for a friend that paid me $20 bucks and I decided then I wanted to make income off my creativity with a paint brush and I’ve been creating everyday since. I quit my job in st. Louis in 2017 and moved to Atlanta Ga where I sold my first canvas.

Cameron, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Ever since I was a kid I’ve always been into art, from doing sketches on paper or doing acrylic paintings, sculptures, and oil paintings etc from grade school to high school I’ve always been into art just never really thought or took it serious. It’s always been a hobby for me until I seen that painting that one day.
Learning the business side of art is still something I’m learning while being in the process of being a self taught artist. Understanding my worth and making sure it makes sense on paper, but through the years it’s has its moments, but I mainly focus on the grind and satisfying my customers on their orders.
I tend to set goals every project that I work on. Wether it’s one to two projects or more I set small goals each project to make sure I’m reaching my goals and by the date I set for it. Now being a father I’ve been able to work on balancing my time from family art and the 9-5 life. It’s been an interesting journey so far, and I’m excited to see what’s in store for my family and I.
I watch a lot of YouTube videos on different artists that show you the different supplies and tools they use to create their work. Or I use social media to see where and what they use on my products, and personal art that I own.
I provide acrylic and oil paint canvases, customized sneakers, or other leather accessories and graphic T shirts with my artwork.
With me setting my small goals for my projects I’m able to get my projects done in a reasonable time frame that the customer request for it to be done.
.I think what makes me stand out is that I borrow from many different artist and put it into my craft. Take bits and pieces from here or there and make my masterpiece in my way using what I see. I try to use everything I can for my advantage when it comes to art.
I would say the time I met Wiz Khalifa and Curren$y and gave them my work, or the time Larry June wore a pair of one of one custom sneakers I did for him. It’s hard to say I think all of my achievements are amazing and I am glad I reached em but I’m really just get to my started and I try not to live off my last work. I’m always in the creating process that all I think is forward. Being able to love what you do is the biggest accomplishment I think not just a moment, the whole things because most people don’t do what they love everyday even if it’s just 30 mins of it, they never get to feel the joy I get from creating.
The main things I want is more clients, more people to know about my work and book with me so we can come together with a custom piece that’s yours and nobody else can say they have it. It’s a true 1 of 1. I strive to put joy and excitement in my customers faces, seeing the happiness they feel when they holding my craft is priceless.
One thing I want clients to know is that my art is all about growth. Trying new things, and taking those challenging projects on sharping my skills each project at a time.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I would say the most rewarding aspect of being an artist/creator is having my daughter here to witness it. Watching her pick up paint brushes and seeing her want to paint and do what I do makes it all better. Or seeing a happy customer!

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I want to be a great artist. my goal is very plain and simple I want to be a great artist that one day you can Google my name and it tells the world I’m an artist from St. Louis MO and all my work pops up next to it. I want to be an example for young men and women that art is cool. Art is fun and art helps you express anything that’s hard to say out loud. Show the youth that art help heals the soul, and to never be afraid of expressing what’s real to them. I’m on a mission of leaving a legacy behind for my children and their family.
