We were lucky to catch up with Cameron Biggs recently and have shared our conversation below.
Cameron, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you wish you had started sooner?
YouTube is an interesting place, because you get a constant feed of videos with titles like “If I were to start a channel in 2024”, “I’m 40. Here is what I would tell my 30 year old self”, “Why I should have started sooner.”
And so on.
For me, the best time to have started my automotive podcast and YouTube channel, is right now. Earlier would not have yielded the quality of content I have been able to make.
It also afforded me the ability to really hone in on what I wanted my channel to be. Instead of chasing trends or topics, I’ve been able to create content I love. Content that I re-watch and am proud to upload.
So for me, my start time, when I first uploaded my first podcast and auto move content to YouTube, was right on time.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a husband, father, a lover of cooking food, a techie, a music producer and passionate about all things automotive.
My channel is simply an outward expression or visual representation of my everyday conversations. Either with friends, my 10 year old son, who also loves cars, or my wife lovingly listening to me rattle off the latest news or watch an automotive YouTube channel with me.
This love of cars and been apart of me since I was a child. My mother was amazing in her nurturing of that passion. Whether that was us traveling to Switzerland for the Geneva Autoshow, or taking a weekend trip to a Chicago to see their Autoshow, she did not hesitate to encourage my passion.
As an adult I began a career centered around the automotive space, from a test driver to a Service Advisor, and ended at a role in the technology space. However, my love for cars has never wavered.
It’s has only grown and have the ability to own exciting cars like my Toyota GR Corolla, has given me a place to share that passion, to build a project and showcase its progress and build that upon a foundation with my podcast.
The CarQuicks Podcast was the beginning and it’s the most important piece to my story. Something I spoke about doing for years and being able to excite on that vision is what I am the most proud of.
Staying consistent and pushing through any doubt or reluctance to stand next to larger channels, or concern myself with numbers, has proven to be a blessing not only to my personal goals, but even that of my own family and friends. Who get to see the progression and see me achieve goals I have set.
It’s only the beginning and the journey is what I am most excited about.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Consistency and honesty.
This sounds familiar to anyone who is starting YouTube channels or podcasts, and that is the consistency of your work.
Making sure you are producing, uploading and sharing the content you create and not losing momentum you’ve created.
Just as important to that consistency, is honesty for me. Being honest with yourself, for who you are and what you want to create. Social media has made the chase for trends something that can derail your honesty.
You may decide to shift content unknowingly to something that gets “better numbers”, but ultimately in the end, you being dishonest with yourself will cause you to have to turn back to your true self at some point.
When you have those moments you lose to the people who may have followed you under the wrong idea, and I work to make sure what I create represents not only me well, but my family.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
For me the goal is to show it can be done.
To learn how to fight through the difficulty of starting something from the ground up. To see what consistency actually means. How to channel passion into content and not lose your love for it.
To be a good representative of myself and add to the creative space. To execute well on offering a different perspective and outlet for an audience to discover.
To show my children how a love for a hobby or passion about a subject, can lend itself to be a fulfilling journey, that is fun, rewarding, challenging and purposeful.
