We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Cameren Jackson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Cameren, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
After graduating with a Mechanical Engineering Technology Degree, I decided to take the risk of becoming a full time actor. I was skeptical of pursuing an acting career which lead me to get my plan “c”, an engineering degree. I realized I wasn’t getting younger and this was the best time in my life to pursue my passion in the arts. After making this life changing decision, I am happy to say my career is ongoing and successful . For instance, I play the lead villain in The Fearless Three, in which I trained karate for in 3 months. I am blessed to say that it has premiered in theaters in 2022 and it is now on Amazon Prime and Tubi. I have three movies premiering sometime in 2024. I appeared in an episode of East New York as a stunt actor. I train in stunts, drama, comedy, IMPROV, horseback riding, gymnastics, singing, guitar, and piano. I have developed these skills to become a marketable actor which has made me a more well rounded individual as well. I believe everyone should take a risk otherwise life is too easy and mundane. If you’re scared of it, you must go after it.
Cameren, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Cameren Jackson. A little about me; I come from humble beginnings. I had a lot of hardships growing up, for instance, I was homeless with my veteran father while transferring to a new school and enduring new surroundings (New Orleans to New York). My Southern accent was thick and my clothes were tattered, worn, and 2nd hand from Goodwill. That didn’t stop me from becoming 11th in my high school class with a 100.97 GPA and earning a Mechanical Engineering Tech Degree with a GPA of 3.73 in 2020. Overcoming my hardships, has made me into the humble and driven spirit I am today. I started influencing after I starred in the movie; The Fearless Three starring Taimak, Miguel Nunez Jr., Omar Gooding, in which I perform my own stunts now on Tubi. I have worked with Sweatshaper, restaurants, skin care brands such as Gleamin, and Hair products. I have experience in commercial, editorial, and hair modeling.
I got in the Acting/Modeling industry by using Backstage.com. I was able to build my resume with non union credits, get footage for my reel, and get experience on set. I also got experience on set by applying to extra work on Casting Networks and Central Castings. I am very proud of the bonds and relationships I have created and the projects that I have worked on thus far. Anyone can start their acting career using these websites that I have mentioned. I would like inspiring artists and creatives to follow my journey. I would like to motivate and influence artists of all ages. They can purse their passions and dreams as well.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is when you see yourself on the big screen or network television. It is a plus when they have caught you speaking in the film or on tv. All of your hard work, investments, and studying is displayed for the world to see. When my movie, The Fearless Three, premiered in the Newark, New Jersey movie theater, I sat in the theater with my family and friends. Their eyes grew wide and mouths dropped open in awe. That was when I knew my sacrifices and challenges were worth it. Others could see that I have went for my dreams and there was proof of my success right before their eyes.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Once you get the biggest role or credit of your career, you must continue auditioning and competing with other talented actors. I thought once I earned my first principal role in an Indie film, my career would sky rocket. I was mistaken. I continue to bartend and apply for background roles to pay bills. As an artist and actor, you never stop working. I apply for roles everyday. As an artist, you have to continue to make sacrifices.
