We were lucky to catch up with Camelitia Harris recently and have shared our conversation below.
Camelitia, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Taking care of customers isn’t just good business – it is often one of the main reasons folks went into business in the first place. So, we’d love to get a conversation going around how to best help clients feel appreciated – maybe you can share something you’ve done or seen someone do that’s been really effective at helping a customer feel valued?
The best thing I have ever done for a customer was give them a low rate to help with their current situation. I had a client that was going through depression and their home condition had declined. While coming up with a plan to help them, I decided to discount the cleaning to help their mental state of mind and to help them financially. I saw pass the money and saw someone who really needed my company to assist with making their home better. That client is now going on one year of recurring cleanings and has been so appreciative of what we were able to do for them.
Camelitia, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Camelitia Harris. Born in Mississippi and raised in Tennessee. I decided to start my business due to my addiction to cleaning, I am not perfect, but I am really good at it. Dream Xtreme Cleaning Service has been operating since May of 2017. Just like every other business, it has its ups and downs. Starting off, business was really slow for a long time. And it was sort of due to me also working a full time job. Dream Xtreme Cleaning Services offers deep cleans, standard cleans, move in/move out cleans, small office cleans, Air BNB turnover, and more. We also create customized cleanings to fit our clients budget. Professionalism, great customer service, quality cleanings, and being affordable is our main goal. Not everyone has the means to get help so we offer specials monthly for those wanting a clean but can’t afford it full price. I am most proud of how far I have come. When it comes to marketing, I don’t just sit behind a computer and only advertise on the internet. Foot marketing and passing out business cards has gotten me majority of my clients and has helped in increasing business. Going to different events and putting my name out there has put me in a position to meet some great people. My passion to help others and my personality sets me apart from others. Just seeing the smile I put on my clients face is enough for me to say, I did my job
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn was allowing people to pay me when they were ready. I am a very nice person and I use to allow people to pay me late, sometimes the next day and it got out of control. There were people that did not pay me at all and would ignore my calls and text when it was time to pay. It took some time but I learned my lesson. I started doing research and started reading policies and rules that other companies had set forth. I now require you to pay a booking fee at the time of booking and your remaining balance is due upon arrival before I start. If payment is not received upon arrival within 15 minutes, I will not continue the service. I have to protect my business and myself.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Building your followers and content on social media is a lot but rewarding. You HAVE to be consistent in your work and in postings. Posting daily and using the right hashtags helps with gaining followers and also people looking for your line of business. Most of the social media platforms allows you to pay for advertising in areas of your selections and people target. There is a fee for the advertising but it is worth it. Be sure to interact with other accounts as well so that your engagement score is high. It may get overwhelming at times trying to juggle so many social media accounts, but it helps when building your business.
